Behavioral Health Utilization Coordinator (Bachelor’s Level – Non-Licensed)

Location: Clarkston, GA (In-Office)

Position Overview

The Behavioral Health Utilization Coordinator serves as a critical operational partner within our community-based mental health programs. This role ensures that services remain authorized, documentation stays compliant, and client care continues without interruption.

This is not a direct therapy role, but a key support position that works closely with licensed clinicians to ensure the clinical and administrative systems behind care are running efficiently and effectively.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a structured environment where accuracy and timeliness are essential to client success.

Key ResponsibilitiesAuthorizations & Service Continuity
  • Submit and manage prior authorizations and concurrent reviews within required timelines
  • Track authorization statuses and proactively notify clinical staff of approvals, denials, or upcoming expirations
  • Communicate with insurance providers and Care Management Organizations (CMOs)
  • Assist in resolving authorization-related billing or documentation issues
Documentation & Compliance
  • Review client records to ensure completeness (signatures, dates, required forms)
  • Identify documentation deficiencies and notify clinicians/supervisors
  • Prepare records for internal, state, and federal audits
  • Maintain tracking systems for authorizations, treatment plans, and compliance deadlines
Treatment Plan Coordination
  • Assign clients to therapists and paraprofessionals based on availability
  • Monitor treatment plan due dates and ensure timely updates
  • Assist with updating goals and objectives in the electronic health record (as directed)
  • Ensure documentation is properly uploaded and maintained
Data & Administrative Support
  • Collect demographic and non-clinical information from clients and collateral contacts
  • Enter and maintain accurate data in electronic health records and tracking systems
  • Support productivity tracking and reporting
Discharge & Care Coordination Support
  • Assist with discharge documentation and coordination
  • Support non-clinical aspects of client transitions between services
Quality Improvement
  • Participate in utilization review and quality improvement activities
  • Assist with data tracking and reporting for performance initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in behavioral health, community mental health, or human services
  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems
  • Knowledge of Medicaid, insurance authorization processes, or CMOs
  • Understanding of HIPAA and documentation compliance requirements
