About This Position
The Adjunct Professor, Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a part-time faculty position that reports directly to the Chair, Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Diagnostic Echocardiography. This is an adjunct (as needed) faculty position responsible to the Program Chair. The instructor must be responsible for providing instruction, evaluation of students, documentation of progress, and periodic review of course content.
- Evaluate and ensure the effectiveness of clinical experiences for the concentration(s) in which students are enrolled
- Provide clinical instruction and document the evaluation and progression of clinical performance leading to clinical competence
- Instruct and supervise a diverse population of students in the classroom at various times and locations
- Possess a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence
- Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and oral
- Demonstrate general knowledge of sonographic physics, anatomy, patient care, hospital and departmental policy and all sonographic equipment
- Prepare and utilize a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution
- Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources
- Assess competencies in teaching and must maintain compliance with the standards set by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography in the current Standards and Guidelines of an Accredited Educational Program for the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and the Tyler Junior College rules and regulations.
- Be familiar with program goals of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program
- Assist in the recruitment and retention of students
- Advise students in academic matters or refers students to appropriate resources
- Assess students’ performance through a range of measurement activities and keeps them informed of their progress in a timely manner
- Engage students face-to-face and through electronic communications
- Utilize technology to facilitate learning and to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others
- Assist in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives
- Build positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community
- Submit timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions and departments
- Provide recommendations to the Instructional Dean, Department Chair, and appropriate college committees regarding curriculum, instruction and division operations
- Exhibit a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities
- Adhere to Tyler Junior College policies and procedures
- Attend institutional meetings as required
- Other duties as assigned
Education
- Possess an academic degree no lower than an Associate degree and at least equal to that for which the graduates are being prepared
- Possess the appropriate credential(s) specific to concentration(s) that instructor is designated to coordinate
- Required credentials for DMS instructor (general and vascular): RDMS (AB)(OB) and RVT (VT) or RVS
- Required credentials for DE instructor (echo and vascular): RDCS (AE) or RCS and RVT (VT) or RVS
- A minimum of two years of clinical experience as a registered sonographer in the professional sonography field.
- Have documented experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance, and in educational theories and techniques
- Prior teaching experience at the college level preferred
- Experience with Canvas LMS preferred
