Recreation Aide at City of Somerton – Somerton, Arizona

SUMMARY
Under direct supervision, performs entry-level planning and delivery of general recreation, sports programs, and special events through an internship opportunity within the Parks and Recreation Department.

• WorkscloselywithParksandRecreationstafftoassistwithprogramplanning,oversight,andschedulingfora variety of activities within Parks and Recreation.
• Performs job duties within scopeofauthority;reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
• Supervises program participants; enforces rules, regulations andsafety precautions at recreation facilities and outdoor venues; monitors program activities, maintains discipline, and assists participants.
• Instructsvariousarts,crafts,games,andclasses;explainstherulesandtechniquesforspecificactivities; evaluates performance of program participants and assists with skills improvement.
• Organizes and schedules sports activities; inspects and prepares facilities and sports venues; assists with leading, coaching, and officiating games and sports activities;explains and enforces rules and proper behavior; maintains discipline, safety standards and good sportsmanship.
• Answersquestionsandinquiries;providesprograminformationtoparticipantsandthe public.
• Promotesrecreationprogramsandservicestolocalcommunityagenciesandcitizen groups.
• Follows and enforces safety rules and regulations to enhance public safety; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
• Supports the relationship between the City of Somerton and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperativebehaviorwheninteractingwithresidents,visitors,andCitystaff;promotestheCitygoalsand priorities; complies with all City policies and procedures.
• Maintainsabsoluteconfidentialityofwork-relatedissues;performsotherdutiesasrequiredor assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• One (1 ) year of experience teaching, playing, or participating in organized recreational programs or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

• Work is performed in a standard office environment, and at various outdoor recreation sites.
