NOC Technician Tier II

BUSINESS UNIT: BeyondReach

FUNCTION: Service

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

LOCATION: Cedar Rapids, Iowa

EDUCATION: 2 years higher education/Industry standard technology certifications

EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years preferred

The NOC Tier II is responsible for advanced monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolution of network and telecommunication systems issues. This position serves as an escalation point for Tier I support and works to ensure network performance and stability in a 24/7 operations environment. The NOC Tier II collaborates with internal teams, vendors, and clients to address complex issues and maintain optimal network functionality.

What You’ll Accomplish and Experience

  • Monitor network performance using advanced monitoring tools and proactively identify issues affecting network operations.
  • Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and analysis of network incidents to ensure prompt resolution.
  • Act as an escalation point for Tier I support staff, assisting with complex technical issues.
  • Analyze network alerts, interpret logs, and respond to incidents in line with established service-level agreements (SLAs).
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and field technicians to implement network changes, upgrades, and installations.
  • Document detailed incident reports, resolutions, and network changes in the ticketing system.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring network issues and recommend preventive measures.
  • Ensure adherence to network operations policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Assist in training and mentoring Tier I technicians to enhance their technical capabilities.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Desirable Previous Experience

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • MikroTik MTCRE, Cisco CCNA or CCNP certification, or equal training and experience required.
  • Strong background of working within IP Operations environment of a Telco or large ISP.
  • Advanced understanding of IP principles and of the components of an IP network is required.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with IPSec, STP, PPTP, L2TP, SSL, MPLS.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with 802.1q and VLAN trunking, and QOS.
  • Experience with network monitoring tools (Solarwinds.)
  • Experience building automation tools using Python, Javascript or other high-level languages.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with BGP (including eBGP and iBGP), OSPF, GRE, IS-IS, EIGRP routing protocols.
