The Software Simulation Engineer is responsible for development and maintenance of I/O layer software that supports the software development and hardware integration in the real-time HWIL facilities used in the NASA Space Launch System program at MSFC.
Some functions of the position are as follows:
- Design and implement the I/O layer software that abstracts hardware interfaces for ground systems, enabling reliable data exchange for command, telemetry, and control.
- Develop and maintain device drivers and hardware abstraction modules for sensors, storage, and communications.
- Maintain and upgrade the Operating Systems on real-time hardware per software and project requirements.
- Conduct and participate in design and code reviews for I/O Layer software.
- Develop and maintain documentation for system architecture, interfaces, and operational procedures.
- Provide technical support during software development, software testing, and hardware integration.
- Collaborate with systems engineers to ensure integration of ground systems per mission requirements.
- Perform rigorous testing, validation, and troubleshooting of mission-critical software and hardware.
Qualifications
A degree in Software Simulation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field is required. Degree from an ABETaccredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a minimum of a Masters with at least 3 years of experience, or BS with at least 5 years of experience.
Additional requirements and/or desired attributes:
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in C/C++.
- Proficiency working with Unix/Linux (Unix-like OS structure, file system, shell, secure shell).
- Experience in device driver development.
- Experience in Hardware-in-the-loop test facility design.
- Experience in developing software to interface with data buses and standards such as MIL-STD-1553, RS422, and InfiniBand.
- Experience with Real-Time computing and operating systems.
