SUMMARY: The Gardening Labourer supports the successful execution of residential landscape maintenance and gardening services through hands-on site work and equipment operation. Working under the direction of a Foreman or Crew Lead, this role assists with plant health, horticultural care, and property presentation while maintaining strict adherence to safety standards and company procedures.The Gardening Labourer contributes to efficient project delivery by maintaining organized job sites, properly caring for tools and equipment, and demonstrating a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to quality workmanship. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Grounds & Plant CarePruning, trimming, and deadheading trees, shrubs, and perennials.
Weeding and cultivation of beds.
Fertilizing and soil amendment.
Monitoring plant health and identifying pests/disease.
Mulch installation and seasonal bed preparation.
Mowing, trimming, edging.
Spring and fall clean-ups.
Irrigation checks and basic adjustments.
Leaf removal and debris management.
Safely operate small equipment as trained, including walk-behind and ride-on mowers, line trimmers, hedge trimmers, and backpack blowers.
Use hand tools including shovels, rakes, brooms, and hammers.
Ensure tools and equipment are in safe working condition and report defects immediately.
Track tools and equipment using company asset management systems (e.g., Asset Tiger).
Follow all company policies and procedures, including OH&S requirements.
Wear required PPE at all times and adhere to Safe Work Practices and Safe Job Procedures.
Participate in toolbox meetings and complete safety documentation when required (e.g., inspections, incident or near-miss reporting).
Maintain awareness of hazards and contribute to a safe work environment.
Keep job sites clean, organized, and hazard-free throughout the workday.
Ensure tools, trucks, and materials are properly stored and secured at shift end.
Promote high standards of workmanship and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
Communicate professionally and respectfully with crew members and clients on-site.
Represent the company’s mission, vision, and values through conduct and performance.
From November through April, Park Landscaping transitions to Snow and Ice Management operations. During this period, the Gardening Labourer supports winter services by performing snow removal and ice control duties for designated areas such as sidewalks, parking lots, and special project sites.
Core responsibilities shift to snow clearing, salting, equipment operation, and site monitoring, while maintaining the same expectations for safety compliance, equipment care, documentation, and teamwork. The role remains hands-on and operational, adapted to winter conditions and service requirements.
Experience in landscaping or construction is an asset.
Basic horticultural knowledge is an asset.
Knowledge of pruning techniques is an asset.
WHMIS / First Aid is an asset.
Post-secondary training in landscaping, safety, first aid, or equipment operation is an asset.
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with clean abstract is an asset.
Reliable transportation to job sites is required.
Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Basic proficiency with digital tools for time tracking and safety documentation (e.g., Aspire, Site Docs) is an asset.
Strong work ethic with reliability, accountability, and attention to detail.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
Effective time management and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Clear and professional communication skills.
Physically capable of performing manual labour in outdoor conditions, including lifting, bending, repetitive movement, and equipment operation.
Comfortable using mobile devices for recordkeeping and safety documentation.
Primarily outdoor work environment.
Regular exposure to dirt, dust, debris, and equipment-related noise.
Extended periods of walking and standing.
Repetitive pruning and trimming motions.
Exposure to varying weather conditions, including sun, heat, cold, wind, and rain.
Fast-paced, physically demanding setting with changing site conditions.
