About This Position

Description:

Provides respiratory therapy services for patients of the hospital as ordered by a physician to include interventional procedures, conducting pulmonary function testing, Holter monitoring, ECG, and arterial blood gas analysis, and emergency respiratory support.

Responsibilities

Their duties include interviewing patients and completing diagnostic tests to determine their respiratory conditions, communicating with Physicians and Nurses to develop patient treatment plans and administering respiratory treatments to patients based on their conditions. Provides care appropriate for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Assesses and interprets data on neonate and the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients' status to identify patients' requirements relative to their age specific needs and provides care needed as stipulated in departmental policy.

  1. Interpersonal skills are required for a Respiratory Therapist to effectively communicate with patients, families, nurses, doctors or other medical staff. Good communication is vital to work well with others and in a team setting.
  2. Promotes a Positive and respectful Team environment.
  3. Adheres to the attendance policy.
  4. Consult with doctors and other healthcare staff to develop and modify patient treatment plans
  5. Provide detailed therapy, requiring significant independent judgment, like when caring for patients in intensive care
  6. Treat patients using oxygen or oxygen mixtures, aerosol medications and chest physiotherapy
  7. Educate patients on how to use equipment and medication
  8. Connect and monitor patients that need a ventilator
  9. Uses problem-solving skills to recommend and administer treatment based on their evaluation of a patient’s symptoms.
  10. Maintenance and removal of secretions through various methods.
  11. Performs arterial punctures and analysis of the blood for ABG's.
  12. Performs routine ECG's and prepares them for physical interpretation.
  13. Performs Pulmonary Function Testing and Holter Monitoring.
Requirements:

Education and Work Requirements

  1. Associate degree required
  2. Certified as a CRTT or RRT
  3. BLS
  4. PALS
  5. ACLS
  6. NRP
  7. Minimum 1 year experience as a Certified Cardiopulmonary Technician
  8. Minimum 1 year Critical Care experience
