NextStar Energy (NSE) is Canada’s first large-scale battery manufacturing facility. Located in Windsor, Ontario, NextStar Energy is dedicated to the development and innovation of sustainable and efficient energy solutions, empowering the future of mobility.
The manufacturing facility is targeted to have an annual production capacity in excess of 49 gigawatt hours and will create an estimated 2,500 new jobs in Windsor and the surrounding areas.
We are seeking a highly skilled “Equipment Engineer” to join our team. The successful candidate will be Responsible for equipment engineering activities and document control management. This role requires a strong understanding of maintaining and troubleshooting machines.
Responsibilities
- Understanding of machinery, electrical systems and pneumatics.
- Understanding of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), alarms and manual documents.
- Understanding of equipment terminology.
- Applies engineering techniques to install, modify, analyze, repair and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment.
- Confers with production engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
- Monitor equipment performance and suggest improvements.
- Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.
- Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
- Provide technical assistance in installation and maintenance of company equipment. Perform equipment upgrades as per customer requirements.
- Maintain documentations for equipment installation, maintenance and troubleshooting procedures for reference purposes.
- Communicate with vendors to solve complex problems by identifying and evaluating alternatives to provide support.
- Act as primary contact for equipment performance related questions and concerns.
- Work with engineers and operators to troubleshoot the machines on the production floor to ensure highest yield and OEE
- Improve production processes by creating various SOPs and train technician to ensure understanding and correct implementation to floor
- Maintain communication between department co-workers and manage production flow from one process to the next
- Prepare and participate daily/weekly/monthly meetings with other teams
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field)
- Hands-on experience in equipment maintenance within a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting skills
- Experience performing preventive maintenance (PM) and breakdown maintenance (BM)
- Ability to diagnose equipment failures and implement corrective actions independently
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment
- Strong problem-solving ability
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Engineering or related field
- Knowledge of basic statistical analysis
- Experience with document control and maintaining technical records
- Familiarity with CMMS systems, maintenance logs, and reporting systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook; PowerPoint is an asset)
- Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar drafting software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively across departments
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
