About This Position
Department: Parks and Recreation- Special Events Division
Reports to: Special Events Manager
FLSA: Non Exempt, PT
Grade: 40

SUMMARY: The Special Events Coordinator assists with supervising special events occurring on Town of Telluride property. This role follows a flexible schedule based on the special event schedule, with shifts typically scheduled between Thursday and Sunday.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Special Events Operations
Assists with supervision and evaluation of special events occurring on Town property
Assist with the maintenance, supervision and management of event facilities
Respond to public inquiries regarding special events
Enforce rules and regulations with fair judgment
Assist with informational materials for distribution
Assist organizers with event execution logistics including setup, and breakdown
Assist with event permitting and compliance with Town policies, contracts and legal requirements
Assist with efforts to address any issues or emergencies that may arise during the event
Other tasks and special projects as assigned
Safety
Inspect facilities and equipment for safety and compliance with standards and records safety data
Demonstrate compliance with all Town and P&R Department safety procedures, regulations, and policies
Work safely to prevent accidents
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications):Valid driver’s license; High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelors degree in Event Management or related field desired; one (1) to two (2) years experience in event coordination, oversight, or related field preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Knowledge of: event planning and logistics; safety and risk management; record keeping processes; Microsoft Office programs; Telluride Parks and Recreation facilities, procedures, activities, and programming.
Skill in: effective communication (verbal and written); problem solving; customer service, time management, multi-tasking; organization; attention to detail; work collaboratively and independently without supervision; positive interpersonal and public relations; critical thinking; flexibility; prioritization; conflict resolution; decision making; maintaining composure in stressful situations.
Environmental Factors:
Work is performed primarily in and around the Town’s properties and facilities. Work performed outdoors is subject to adverse weather conditions. This position may include evening, weekends and holiday work.
Physical Factors:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand and walk for extended periods of time; may occasionally be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds.
