Laboratory Assistant Position Summary

The Laboratory Assistant will coordinate and perform tasks and activities in the Microbiology Laboratory under the supervision of a medical technologist and/or supervisor. The Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of routine sample preparation and set up, inventory and administrative tasks in accordance with written policies and procedures. The laboratory assistant communicates information to the appropriate authorized personnel.

Laboratory Assistant Position Requirements

Education

• High school diploma. Some college level biology/chemistry classes preferred.

Laboratory Assistant Work Schedule

• The Laboratory is staffed seven days a week, twenty-four hours per day. Personnel may be assigned to work mostly one shift or may have a rotational schedule consisting of duty on day, evening and night shifts. Both options may include weekends.
• Rotational coverage of holidays.
• Expected to work overtime and/or additional weekends in times of staffing shortages, emergencies and unexpected increases in workload.
• Expected to respond in the event of a disaster.

Laboratory Assistant Benefits

At TidalHealth, team members working at least 36 hours per pay period based on 12-hour shift schedules or at least 37.5 hours for non 12-hour shift schedules and part-time team members working at least 30 hours or more on weekends only are eligible for benefits.
