Job Description

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music seeks a Systems Administrator to support and modernize enterprise IT systems, including infrastructure, identity management, and key academic platforms such as the Student Information System. The role combines systems administration and Tier 2/3 support with responsibilities for security, compliance, and lifecycle management, while also contributing to infrastructure planning and strategic IT initiatives.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Executes infrastructure modernization tasks to consolidate overlapping systems, migrate legacy platforms, and automate manual processes.
  • Contributes to architectural decisions and strategic planning, with opportunities to lead initiatives and help select vendors as you grow in the role.
  • Supports the technical rollout of enterprise systems and integrations, including the Student Information System (SIS), by handling both back-end configuration and front-end user troubleshooting.
  • Administers and enhances identity and access management systems, including Azure Active Directory (Entra ID), SSO, and MFA to support business and academic operations.
  • Assesses enterprise system security, data integrity, and compliance with regulatory frameworks, including FERPA.
  • Monitors and maintains server health (Windows Server, Hyper-V), performing routine patches, updates, and physical hardware maintenance to maximize uptime.
  • Performs hands-on hardware and software lifecycle management, including the configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting of workstations, peripherals, and mobile devices.
  • Provides Tier 2/3 Helpdesk support for complex issues and serve as a technical escalation point for the team.
  • Manages ticket lifecycle, helping to resolve issues efficiently and meet user expectations.
  • Maintain comprehensive technical and end-user documentation for all systems and processes.
  • Performs other IT-related duties as assigned
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in systems administration, network engineering, or IT infrastructure roles
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Active Directory (Entra ID), including SSO, MFA, and conditional access policies
  • Experience with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Python, Bash, or JavaScript)
  • Proven ability to diagnose complex technical issues across servers, systems, and networks
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on long-term projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with SQL and REST APIs for integrations, automations, and reporting
  • Familiarity with MDM solutions such as JAMF and Intune
  • Exposure to reporting and automation tools like Power BI or Power Automate
  • Interest in mentoring others, growing into a technical leadership role, and supporting a music-focused educational mission
  • Experience in higher education or nonprofit IT environments.

Compensation

$95,000 to $110,000 Annualized, based on a 35-hour workweek ($52.20 to $60.44/hour) with health & welfare benefits effective on the first of the month following date of hire.
