Senior Staff Accountant Ensure Financial Integrity for Leading Life Safety Projects

The Opportunity You will serve as a foundational pillar of our financial operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of complex construction accounting and job costing. This role grants you the autonomy to own the month-end close while partnering with leadership to protect the company's bonding capacity and financial health. You will make a tangible impact by stabilizing accounting processes in an environment where your expertise directly supports our mission to protect lives and property.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Month-End Close & Financial Reporting (Primary Responsibility)
Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, reclasses, and adjustments.
Perform full bank and credit card reconciliations with no unreconciled variances.
Reconcile all balance sheet accounts with supporting schedules.
Assist in producing accurate monthly financial statements, including the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.
- Job Cost Accounting & WIP Management (Critical Function)
Reconcile job cost data between BuildOps and QuickBooks to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Validate labor, material, and subcontractor cost allocations to jobs.
Ensure accuracy of Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.
Support revenue recognition processes and help ensure alignment with contract terms.
Identify and resolve job cost discrepancies impacting margins, reporting, and project visibility.
- General Ledger Integrity & Cleanup
Review and maintain the accuracy of the general ledger.
Identify and correct miscoded, duplicate, or unsupported transactions.
Maintain clean and organized supporting documentation for all entries.
Assist in stabilizing and improving existing accounting processes and financial records.
- Audit, Compliance & Controls
Support internal and external audits, including insurance and bonding reviews.
Maintain adherence to internal controls and accounting policies.
Assist in implementing process improvements to reduce risk and increase efficiency.
- Collaboration & Support
Work closely with the Controller and Accounting Manager to support financial reporting and departmental goals.
Partner with operations and project teams to validate job cost accuracy.
Provide clear communication and financial insight to internal stakeholders.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience, with a mandatory focus on construction or job cost accounting.
Proven expertise in managing WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and construction-specific billing workflows.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and significant experience utilizing QuickBooks for complex financial management.
Demonstrated ability to reconcile data across disparate systems and identify reporting discrepancies independently.
Strong analytical skills necessary for performing full bank and credit card reconciliations with no unreconciled variances.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in financial cleanup or stabilizing accounting processes in high-growth environments.
Advanced knowledge of insurance and bonding review requirements within the construction industry.
