Summary

The CIO is responsible for the end to end leadership of the Technology organization, including Application Development, Enterprise Architecture, Production Support, Business Intelligence/Data function, and Cyber Security. The role is responsible for the development, senior leadership alignment, and execution of the technology strategy to enable RiverStone to successfully achieve its business objectives. The CIO also ensures disciplined governance, robust service delivery, and alignment with the business strategy.

Essential Functions

1) Strategic Leadership

  • Proactively define and communicate a multi-year, future-focused technology strategy and roadmap aligned to enterprise objectives and modernized technology (e.g. Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, automation, etc.); set clear outcomes, measures, and sequencing to deliver business value.
  • Stay abreast of and advise company (EXCO) about the key developments in technology and within our business sector that RiverStone must focus on and leverage to achieve its corporate strategies and thrive as a business.
  • Must possess and champion an innovative mindset that seeks to put technology tools and solutions on RiverStone employees’ desks that enhance how we work by saving time, improving quality of work product, minimizing errors, and freeing up our time to focus on strategic thinking and execution. These solutions should enable RiverStone employees to produce more and better work within an allotted workday.
  • Champion Belfast and other strategic locations as integral to the technology plan; foster an inclusive, high performance culture across sites.

2) People Leadership

  • Transformational leadership, inspiring and motivating teams to innovate and achieve excellence.
  • Highly decisive and a strong advocate for the IT team regarding the needs and contributions.
  • Build, coach, and retain high performing leaders and teams across IT department; set clear goals and career paths.
  • Create a deep bench of current and future leaders to enable RiverStone to deliver leadership succession from within for many years into the future.
  • Model RiverStone leadership behaviors; drive clarity, accountability, bring people together and foster collaboration across Corporate Operation Business Unit and with business partners across the Company.
  • Must be fully engaged leader who is sufficiently knowledgeable about the detail of their teams' work to be in the best position to support and drive the team.
3) Stakeholder Engagement
  • Serve as a strategic partner to ExCo and senior leaders; provide transparent updates on strategy, delivery, risks, and tradeoffs.
  • Active participant within the Fairfax IT /AI working groups, including leadership roles, when such opportunities present.

4) Governance & Portfolio Management

  • Establish and enforce IT Governance, including prioritization, resourcing, and status transparency for the technology projects.

5) Architecture & Engineering

  • Own the Enterprise Architecture (information, solution, application, and platform architecture) and ensure standards are practical, adopted, and evolve with the business.
  • Oversee infrastructure and environment health (production, QA/dev, DR), including capacity, reliability, and cost optimization.

6) Delivery & Operations

  • Direct the Help Desk and Production Support functions; define, monitor, and report service level objectives (SLOs) and operational KPIs.
  • Ensure disciplined (timely, high-quality and as specified) software delivery (secure SDLC, quality engineering, release/change management) across application development teams.

7) Data, Analytics & Business Intelligence

  • Partner with data engineering and analytics leaders to establish standards for data governance, quality, and lifecycle management; deliver trusted, timely insights for decision makers.

8) Cybersecurity & Risk

  • Provide executive oversight of Cyber Security; ensure policies, controls, monitoring, and incident response meet regulatory and audit expectations. Align to recognized frameworks (e.g., COBIT; Risk IT) and drive continuous improvement.

9) Vendor & Financial Management

  • Lead with and champion a value mindset that ensures RiverStone spends its time and dollars on the things that will generate the most value and reduce the most risk. Efficient does not mean “cheap.” Instead, it is the ability to achieve maximum productivity with minimum wasted effort and expense.
  • Lead technology vendor strategy and relationships; negotiate value, measure performance, and ensure third party risk is actively managed.
  • Own the technology budget, investment cases, and run cost stewardship, balance ambition with affordability and rigor in business cases.

10) Risk Management

  • Provide input to the corporate Security Policy and ensure IT/Cyber policies and procedures conform to the policy.
  • Oversee the efforts of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
  • Oversee maintenance of the IT Disaster Recovery plan and oversee execution and user signoff of annual Disaster Recovery test.
  • Support maintenance of the Business Continuity Plan and execution of the annual Business Continuity Plan test.

  • Serves on companywide committees as assigned.

Required Skills

  • 12+ years in progressively senior technology roles, including ownership of enterprise scale portfolios and operations.
  • Demonstrated success implementing IT governance, and managing multi-site technology teams
  • Strong leadership, excellent written and oral communication skills, and change management skills; able to set direction and build trust with global teams.
  • Executive level experience owning Enterprise Architecture and infrastructure across prod/dev/DR environments.
  • Proven vendor management and budget stewardship; ability to align investment with business outcomes.

  • Performs other duties as required, including supporting and coordinating with other department colleagues.

Experience

At least 12 years of broad IT management experience and 3-5 years of leadership experience.

Required Education

Four Year College Degree

Preferred Education or Certification

Masters in Computer Science or MBA
