As a world leader in the design and manufacturing industry, Active Dynamics is seeking an eager and enthusiastic experienced Applications Engineer to join our successful Toronto team! We are looking for a talent with solid professional skills in the manufacturing industry who can provide superb work experience. This posting is for an existing, immediate vacancy.
This position is responsible for engineering oversight of product, service, and technical communications or deliverables for our customers, with a focus on customer-driven NPI projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understanding of application, vehicle lines, technological advancements, problem statements and requirements (customer/regulatory/industry competitiveness, etc.).
- Lead technical communication & coordination over the course of a project, including product evaluation, testing/measurement to quantify design targets, etc., while working with support staff of specialists in Design, Analysis, Testing and Sales.
- Determine & recommend solutions based on available product & technologies or tailored solutions, material standards, and DFM standards.
- Select purchase parts and work with suppliers as needed.
- Utilize Engineering calculators and light FEA tools (ie stress) and CFD (ie back pressure & surface temperature) via ANSYS.
- Coordinate with Central Development in Toronto for advanced Engineering and India Design Center for completion of models & drawings by marking up prints for technical/manufacturing requirements, including ECN, using PTC Windchill and Creo View.
- Responsible for Released print and PFD being feasible, manufacturable, and equal/tighter than customer print.
- Create preliminary PFD and handover to ME through Launch.
- Collaborate directly with external customer engineers, suppliers and internal sales, costing, manufacturing and quality teams on pre-sale projects, new awards through NPI process, and production support as needed.
- Build strong engineering relationships with customers through technical leadership & communication.
- Define & support development of technical solutions focused on acoustics, thermals, fluids/power, and durability.
- Consider manufacturability, measurability, materials, GD&T, and requirements for performance, durability and product compliance.
- Use Creo Parametric to design and model complete exhaust systems including design modifications for DFM, integration of AEC standard products, and implementing AEC directed design solutions into customer application.
- Coordinate testing and validation of product at customer location or at AEC.
- Understand our market, customers, competition, technological advancements in our industry towards generating proposals, business cases and strategies towards sustainable product development.
- Lead cross functional team in the development of continuous improvement activities of existing products within the organization.
- Support business process through conception, development, proto/validation, bringing to market & production launch.
- Some travel will be required.
Educational Requirement:
- Mechanical Engineering Degree from an accredited university
Qualifications and Experience:
- ≥5 years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering
- ≥5 years’ experience in related industry
- Software: Experience with CAE & CAD
- Understanding of ASME Y14.5 – 2009, welding and metal forming processes
