Job Description

General Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented sewer to join our team as a boot and shoemaker. The ideal candidate will have experience in creating high-quality, custom-sewn products according to client specifications. This role requires precision, creativity, and a strong understanding of fabrics, patterns, and sewing techniques.


JOB DUTIES:

  • Interpret design specifications and customer requirements to produce custom-sewn items.
  • Measure, cut, and sew fabrics accurately using industrial and/or domestic sewing machines.
  • Select appropriate materials, threads, and techniques for each project.
  • Perform alterations, repairs, and finishing work as needed.
  • Maintain quality standards by inspecting finished products for accuracy and durability.
  • Collaborate with designers, production teams, and clients to ensure satisfaction.
  • Keep work area organized and maintain sewing equipment in good condition.
  • Adhere to safety and company guidelines throughout the production process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience as a sewer, tailor, or similar role in custom garment or product creation.
  • Strong knowledge of sewing techniques, fabrics, and patterns.
  • Ability to read and interpret design sketches and technical instructions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship.
  • Time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Physical dexterity and stamina for extended periods of sewing work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle tools, materials, and machinery with precision.
  • Standing for Extended Periods: Must be able to stand for long durations while performing tasks such as cutting, stitching, and assembling footwear.
  • Repetitive Motions: Regular use of repetitive hand and arm movements, especially during sewing, hammering, and shaping.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry materials and finished products, typically up to 25–50 lbs.
  • Visual Acuity: Good eyesight or corrected vision to inspect fine details, read measurements, and ensure quality craftsmanship.
  • Hearing Ability: Sufficient hearing to operate machinery safely and communicate in a workshop environment.
  • Flexibility and Mobility: Ability to bend, kneel, and reach to access materials and workstations.
  • Exposure to Workshop Conditions: Comfortable working in environments with noise, dust, adhesives, and leather treatments.
