Description:

Are you a hands-on problem-solver who loves diagnosing and fixing complex mechanical systems? We're seeking a skilled Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems Technician to maintain, repair, and rebuild the sophisticated fluid power equipment that keeps critical industrial operations running. You'll work on everything from small precision cylinders to massive hydraulic power units, using precision measuring instruments and specialized tools to teardown, evaluate, and reassemble systems. Duties/Responsibilities

Expert System Diagnosis & Repair:

  • Teardown hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, valves, pumps, motors, and hydrostatic transmissions
  • Use precision measuring instruments to assess component condition and wear
  • Evaluate system performance and identify root causes of mechanical failure
  • Make expert recommendations for repair, rebuilding, or replacement
  • Perform detailed repairs with precision and accuracy
  • Reassemble systems to exacting specifications
  • Test repaired systems to ensure proper function and performance

Precision Measurement & Specification:

  • Determine precise tolerances for all repaired components
  • Convert between metric and standard (imperial) dimensions accurately
  • Use micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, and other precision measuring tools
  • Verify component dimensions meet manufacturer specifications
  • Document all measurements and findings meticulously
  • Ensure all work meets quality and safety standards

Work Planning & Documentation:

  • Assess each repair job and specify parts required
  • Estimate labor time needed for repairs
  • Create detailed work orders and repair documentation
  • Track repair progress and maintain accurate records
  • Meet projected delivery dates consistently
  • Communicate status updates and findings clearly
  • Maintain organized records of all work performed

Shop Maintenance & Organization:

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation
  • Keep tools and equipment properly organized and accessible
  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining various shop equipment
  • Ensure work areas are safe and comply with shop standards
  • Contribute to overall shop cleanliness and organization
  • Report equipment maintenance needs promptly

Equipment Operation & Certification:

  • Operate specialized hydraulic and pneumatic testing equipment
  • Use basic and advanced hand tools safely and effectively
  • Maintain current driver's license
  • Obtain forklift certification and safely operate equipment
  • Learn and master new tools and equipment as needed
  • Follow all equipment operation safety procedures

Flexibility & Responsiveness:

  • Meet tight deadlines and delivery commitments
  • Work overtime as required to complete projects
  • Be available for on-call responsibilities
  • Respond to urgent repair requests with short notice
  • Adapt to changing priorities and workload demands
  • Maintain productivity and quality under pressure
Requirements:

Skills/Abilities

Preferred Technical Skills:

  • Expert hand tool operation?— comfortable with wrenches, screwdrivers, pullers, and specialty tools
  • Precision measurement expertise?— micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, depth gauges, thread gauges
  • Hydraulic/pneumatic system knowledge?— understanding of fluid power principles, components, and operation
  • Blueprint and schematic reading?— ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Tolerance and specification knowledge?— understanding of tight tolerances and precision requirements
  • Metric/Standard conversion skills?— ability to convert between measurement systems accurately
  • Testing equipment operation?— comfort with diagnostic and testing equipment
  • Microsoft Office proficiency?— ability to complete reports, logs, and documentation

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Related experience and/or training are strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • The essential functions of this role regularly require the employee to sit; use their hands to grasp, handle, or feel objects; and to speak and hear effectively. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
