ABOUT iQ ACADEMY, LOS ANGELES AND TK-8 TEACHER POSITIONS:
iQ Academy, Los Angeles delivers online/virtual home based instruction to TK-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily and log attendance. We use the K12, inc. curriculum as the basis for instruction and you will teach via the Engageli platform. Teachers instruct students online daily both synchronously and asynchronously.
While a teacher’s class is generally made up of either elementary (TK-5) or middle school (6-8) grade students based on enrollment, teachers may have students in more than one grade level. Teachers are required to meet in-person and/or virtually with students once per quarter and possibly more often with students who are in need of extra support. Teachers are expected to have regular communication and conferences with students, families, and learning coaches via telephone and email, as well as monitor attendance. Teachers also attend virtual all-staff and department meetings and in-person professional development.
Please Note: Although K-8 teachers can be assigned a grade span of elementary or middle school, all interested applicants will need to be willing to teach all grades, K-8.
HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION:
Full time teachers work Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:00pm. You are not allowed to have another job during these contracted hours.
Full Time TK-8 Teachers: Annual salary based on holding a Bachelors or Masters Degree and up to 5 years of experience in California
We do participate in CalSTRS. Please contact your CalSTRS counselor about how employment with iQ Academy, Los Angeles may affect your personal STRS account. Only full time teachers are offered health, dental, and vision benefits. Benefits information is only given out upon offer. We do provide training for all programs and we have a great staff to serve as your support system.
REQUIRED CREDENTIAL/CERTIFICATION:

• Valid/current Preliminary/Clear/Life California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential
• California English Learner Authorization- Issued by CTC Applicants who are interested in teaching

Overview:
Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual school teachers are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers, therefore, need to share the school’s pioneering mission and approach.
Summary:
Our teachers are responsible for ensuring that students achieve mastery of learning objectives. They provide guidance, instruction and support, manage the learning process and focus on students’ individual needs. The teacher is a highly qualified instructional teacher responsible for the delivery of specified course content both online and in person.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Know and understand the curriculum for assigned grade level(s), K-5, or 6-8.
• Provide students with quarterly/semester assignments via an Individualized Learning Plan, update as needed, and discuss assignments with students/learning coaches regularly.
• Utilize data to drive live instruction, targeting individual student needs.
• Instruct individuals and small groups of students on a daily basis.
• Target instruction to student needs based upon different data sources.
• Regularly review student needs to ensure instruction is effective and appropriate.
• Ensure completion of initial, in-year, and year-end student assessments and utilize student data to drive ongoing instruction
• Collect, review, evaluate and grade student work within 72 hours of assignment submission.
• Proactively track student academic progress and attendance on a daily and weekly basis and discuss pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.
• Counsel students when adjustment and/or academic problems arise.
• Review, analyze, and process academic placement changes.
• Conduct in person (face to face) and/or virtual meetings every quarter or as required with parents/responsible adults and students to assess each student’s progress, learning style, and any other academic, social or developmental issues.
• Generate informal and formal reports based on parent/student conferences.
• Complete report cards and assign grades for mid semester progress reports and semester report cards.
• Alert administrators of any concerns about student progress.
• Support parents with student placement, curriculum, and instructional issues.
• Support parents and students with school set up including basic computer set-up, navigation, and troubleshooting.
• Utilize and test new technologies before families and students implement them.
• Organize orientations, trainings, and social and educational activities for students and families, such as school outings, service-learning opportunities, clubs and events
• Organize and attend school outings as required.
• Travel regularly within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, and participate in school activities, back to school events such as, open houses, and orientations.
• Ensure compliance with state requirements.
• Complete monthly attendance reports to be used for state attendance reporting.
• Actively participate in all aspects of standardized testing (including, but not limited to, working with administration to prepare students for testing, ensuring all students are tested, assisting with the logistics of selecting testing sites).
• Serve as proctors for site-based proctored exams.
• Respond as soon as possible but no later than 24 hours to parent, student, teacher, and admin inquiries via phone and/or email during regular work week.
• Actively participate in student SST and or IEP process and agreement.
• Participate in a weekly teacher conference calls/meetings as needed.
• Participate in professional developments (virtual and in person).
• Attend all in person meetings as scheduled.
• Participate in teacher evaluation process.
• Participate in the school's self-evaluation process.
• Assist with various projects throughout the year with colleagues and administration, as needed.

Assignment of Students:
Students will be assigned to teachers by the Academic Administrator or designees according to a number of variables. In general, the Academic Administrator will look to assign students by grade level and geographic location. Full time classes will be filled prior to assigning students to part time teachers.

This position is a virtual position working from a home office. Must have ability to travel throughout the school year within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, attend regularly scheduled meetings, proctor state exams and participate in school activities and orientations.
