About This Position

Welty Energy is expanding and as such has a brand new opening for a Staff Accountant to join our team!

As a member of the Welty Energy team, the Staff Accountant supports accurate, timely, and reliable financial operations by maintaining core accounting processes, ensuring strong internal controls, and enabling effective decision-making across the organization. This role partners closely with internal project teams and finance leadership to support accurate financial execution, insightful reporting, operational excellence, and customer-centric outcomes.

This role is based in-office 5 days a week in Akron, OH to support our team collaboration and hands on learning!

As a Staff Accountant at Welty Energy, your day to day may look like:

  • Perform daily and weekly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of cash balances and timely identification of discrepancies.
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger accounts, including balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries, including cash activity, accruals, and adjusting entries.
  • Analyze account activity, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Process daily cash deposits, including remote deposit activity, and record EFT/ACH transactions.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly accounts receivable and cash reporting to internal stakeholders.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities, including account reconciliations and financial statement support.
  • Support the preparation of standard financial reports and schedules, including variance analysis and trend review.
  • Assist with year-end audit and tax preparation, coordinating with external accounting firms as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, accounting standards (GAAP), and internal controls.
  • Partner with the team to identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Maintaining accurate, complete, and timely financial records in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Supporting strong internal controls by following established processes and identifying control gaps or risks.
  • Ensuring consistency and accuracy across financial data, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Assisting in the preparation and review of monthly financial reports and schedules.
  • Supporting cash management processes, including monitoring balances and identifying unusual activity.
  • Coordinating with internal teams to resolve accounting questions, discrepancies, and data issues.
  • Maintaining organized, audit-ready documentation for reconciliations, journal entries, and financial support.
  • Supporting external audit and tax requests by preparing schedules and responding to inquiries.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes, documentation, and efficiency.
  • Contributing to a collaborative, professional, and high-accountability finance team environment.

You should bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 2–5 + years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Electric utility, AEC or CM industry experience is highly advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and general ledger processes.
  • Proficiency in bank reconciliation and account reconciliation procedures.
  • Experience with journal entries and balance sheet account analysis.
  • Proficiency in Excel; experience with project accounting, Deltek Vantagepoint is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management abilities.
  • A solid understanding of financial analysis principles, including budgeting and reporting.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and self-navigate client-specific systems, databases, tools, and processes.
