About This Position

Who Are We?

At CMLS Financial, we strike a unique balance: the financial strength of a 50-year industry leader with the energy of a dynamic, fast-paced firm.

  • Growth & Exposure: With over $45 billion in assets under administration, our "booming" business means you gain high-level exposure and real opportunities for career advancement.
  • Supportive Culture: We are professional yet enjoyable. We provide a challenging environment supported by a team that wants you to succeed.
  • National Reach: Work with Canada’s most prominent banks, investment managers, and pension funds from a platform with offices coast to coast.

Join our Vancouver team as a Junior Accountant supporting a dynamic and expanding commercial portfolio. You’ll handle the day-to-day accounting and trust reconciliations with direct guidance from our Finance Managers. We’re looking for someone who values understanding the basics first, but is also observant enough to suggest practical ways to make our workflows more efficient.

Where You’ll Make An Impact:

  • Manage Commercial Financials: Handle the day-to-day mechanics of our commercial brokerage, ensuring all transactions and trust transfers are recorded accurately.
  • Resolve Discrepancies: Take ownership of the commercial trust ledger by reconciling accounts and investigating "mystery" deposits or payment differences.
  • Support Reporting: Assist with the month-end close process and help prepare internal financial reporting packages for our commercial units.
  • Audit Preparation: Support trust and financial statement audits by organizing documentation and ensuring data integrity.
  • Team Collaboration: Act as a flexible resource for the wider Finance team, jumping in to support other accounting functions and projects as needed.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and suggest practical ways to streamline our workflows as our commercial portfolio continues to scale.

What We Value:

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in accounting or finance.
  • You don't just flag a problem; you stay with it until the numbers balance and the stakeholders have the answers they need.
  • A team player who loves sharing knowledge and brainstorming, but possesses the discipline to own your commitments and the ability to deliver results independently.
  • You possess a natural instinct for identifying inconsistencies in complex datasets and the persistence to investigate the "why" behind the numbers.
  • You are tech-savvy and comfortable with Microsoft Excel and navigating accounting ERP systems, with prior experience in Microsoft Business Central being an asset.

Supporting Your Life at CMLS:

  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive insurance (Drug, Vision, Dental) & Health and Wellness Spending Accounts.
  • Mental Support: 24/7 unlimited access to telemedicine, EAP, and mental health services for you and your family.
  • Time Off: 4 weeks paid vacation, plus personal/sick days and all statutory holidays.
  • Future Planning: RRSP Matching Program to help you build long-term wealth.
  • Family Support: Robust Maternity and Parental Leave Top-Up programs.
  • Professional Growth: Education reimbursement, mentoring, and continuous training.
