Introduction:
This temporary position reports to the Grand Haven, Michigan EHS Leader. It is accountable for fulfilling all assigned duties and operates with authority commensurate with assigned responsibilities. The EHS Intern will support environmental, health, and safety initiatives across the facility.
Role Overview:
The EHS Intern will assist in developing, implementing, and improving safety and environmental programs. This includes supporting compliance efforts, conducting audits, driving safety culture, and partnering with operations to reduce risk and improve overall workplace safety.
Intern Responsibilities:
- Safety Data Sheets updated. Review existing chemical catalog for each plant and revise accordingly with OSHA required information. Site inspections, verification of updated SDSs, addition of new SDSs, binder updates, and implementation of new chemical approval process.
- Fire Extinguisher Mapping. Review fire extinguisher locations and create a physical map of their locations, while reviewing that we meet local fire code for proper locations.
- Electrical Panel Floor labeling. Review each facility and process equipment power distribution panel for proper standard floor marking and implement such. Evaluate other emergency equipment labeling needs.
- Landfill Waste reduction project. Review each facility waste streams sent to landfill, identify opportunities to dispose of via alternate pathway (incineration or energy recovery, recycling, etc.), implement improvements, and track results.
Areas Of Responsibility:
- Support development and implementation of EHS programs and procedures.
- Participate in safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Assist with risk assessments and job hazard analysis.
- Collect, analyze, and report EHS data and metrics.
- Support environmental compliance tasks such as waste management and reporting.
- Help drive continuous improvement projects related to safety and environmental performance.
- Effectively participate as a contributing member of the EHS team.
- Perform other duties as assigned and inherent to the role.

Requirements:
- Actively enrolled in a college program related to Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related technical field (Junior level or higher).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong understanding or interest in OSHA and MIOSHA regulations.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to learn facility processes and identify safety and environmental risks.
- Ability to assist in implementing and enforcing safety protocols in a manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in both office and production/warehouse environments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, and twist. They may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, or lift/move objects up to 51 pounds with or without assistance.
