About This Position
We’re looking for an experienced tradesman to help us quote handyman / remodeling jobs and keep our techs in the field. You’d meet homeowners, scope the work, price it fairly, and help us win the right jobs, especially aging-in-place and home safety work. This is a good fit for someone who knows houses, knows people, and wants a less physical role without leaving the industry. Part-time to start, flexible schedule, with room to grow if you want.
About TruBlueTruBlue is a premium home services company providing handyman repairs, home maintenance, senior home safety modifications, and aging-in-place solutions. Our work requires technical judgment, professionalism in the home, and a strong focus on trust.
Role MissionThis role exists to turn customer needs into clear, accurate, professional estimates without pulling technicians off billable work. The right person will help us win more of the right jobs, protect our margins, and create a smoother handoff from estimating to scheduling to field execution.
Problems This Role Will SolveProtect technician utilization by keeping skilled techs in the field doing billable work instead of running estimates.
Improve estimate speed and consistency by pricing most jobs on site and getting every customer a clear next step within 24 hours.
Protect margin by reducing the most expensive estimating mistake in this business: underestimating labor time.
Create clean, schedulable, executable jobs by producing scopes, notes, photos, measurements, and handoff details the office and field team can actually use.
Labor-hour accuracy improves over time, with estimated labor lining up much more closely with actual job completion time.
90% or more of estimates are fully priced and presented before leaving the customer’s home.
100% of customers receive their estimate within 24 hours. If an estimate cannot be completed within 24 hours, the customer receives a proactive update within that window.
Estimate write-ups are detailed and consistent enough that the admin team can schedule properly and the technicians can start work without confusion.
The business converts more than half of all estimates into booked jobs.
Improve the estimating SOP through regular iterations and refinements.
Serve as the face of the company in the customer’s home.
Build trust quickly, understand what customers need, and help them think through the right solution, especially on aging-in-place work and other jobs where safety, comfort, and practicality matter.
Quote a wide range of residential work, including handyman projects, home safety modifications, repairs, and remodel-related jobs, with aging-in-place work as a priority area.
Build accurate scopes of work, including labor, materials, risk points, and job conditions that could affect price or timeline.
Present fair, professional pricing without pressure, gimmicks, or hard-selling.
Document every visit by gathering photos, measurements, notes, scope details, material assumptions, and scheduling implications so the office and field team know exactly what was sold and how the work should be scheduled and executed.
Use Housecall Pro to build and send estimates.
Quote simpler jobs independently. On more complex scopes, especially early on, collaborate with a technician until you have proven judgment.
Protect the company from bad jobs by refusing unsafe, poor-fit, or low-standard work.
Help improve the estimating process over time so the business gets faster, sharper, and more consistent.
You are excellent with people and can make homeowners feel comfortable quickly, especially older adults and homeowners who may feel vulnerable, cautious, or unsure.
You can communicate clearly in person and in writing.
You have strong residential trade knowledge and can talk intelligently about what a job involves.
You have strong judgment around labor time and can think through what a job will actually take.
You are comfortable using technology in the field.
You are reliable, professional, and able to work independently without constant oversight.
You are willing to own the result. Once trained, you are expected to estimate jobs without creating bottlenecks.
Deep hands-on experience in handyman work, remodeling, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or another residential trade.
Experience pricing jobs in customers’ homes.
Experience working with older adults or making home modifications for aging in place.
Experience using Housecall Pro, CompanyCam, or similar field-service tools.
Comfort using AI tools to pressure-test scope, materials, and estimating assumptions.
This job is built for a seasoned residential tradesperson who knows houses, knows people, and no longer wants to beat up their body every day in the field.
You may be a longtime handyman, remodeler, carpenter, plumber, electrician, or general residential problem-solver who still has the judgment, eye, and credibility, but wants a role with less physical strain. You can walk into a home, earn trust fast, ask smart questions, spot what matters, and leave the customer feeling confident.
You should like autonomy. You should like the challenge of figuring out what a job really requires. You should not need scripts, hand-holding, or constant approval. You should care about getting it right, because if you underbid the work, the whole company pays for it later.
Why This Role MattersA good estimator does not just write quotes. A good estimator creates profitable work, protects technician time, improves the customer experience, and helps the business grow the right way.
This role also helps build the estimating system itself. The right person will not just price jobs well. They will help create a more repeatable process for scoping, documenting, and handing off work so the whole company runs better.
This is a chance to use years of field knowledge in a less physically demanding role without leaving the industry behind.
Schedule and GrowthThis role starts part-time at roughly 15 to 20 hours per week with flexible hours. As the company grows, this role can grow with it, if you want.
A Final Note for CandidatesThis is not a clipboard job. This is not high-pressure sales. This is not a role for someone who likes to wing it.
This is for someone who can walk into a home, make people feel at ease, think clearly, price fairly, document thoroughly, protect margin, and help us win the right work.
If that sounds like you, we should talk.
