Summary:

Vighter is seeking Ultrasound (US) Technologists to provide patient care support at the greater Atlanta VA Medical Center and System in Decatur/Atlanta, GA. Ultrasound (US) Technologists are responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients to ensure that the quality of the studies adheres to established standards.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for providing all regularly performed Ultrasound procedures.
  • Familiar with Interventional Radiology procedures to perform invasive exams such as biopsies and drainages. Follows exam protocols, defines optimal protocols, and devises alternative ways to visualize pathology within the patient.
  • The standard of care shall be of a quality, meeting or exceeding currently recognized national standards.
  • Responsible for critiquing images for quality and notifying the Radiologist, Chief Technologist, or Supervising Technologist of significant exams requiring immediate attention while the patient is undergoing the examination.
  • Ensures all documentation required for the completion of the exam is complete in data entry systems.
  • Must be able to perform common exams listed below:
    • AAA Screens
    • Abdomen Complete/No Aorta
    • Abdomen Limited
    • Right Upper Quadrant
    • Renal and Pelvic
    • US Guided IR Procedures
  • Must adhere to 2026 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) standards/guidelines
  • Responsible to explain exams to patients so that patients understand what is to be done as well as what hazards, if any, are possible.
  • Must be continuously alert to the patient’s condition and other disorders. Adverse reactions require immediate attention so that harm does not come to the patient or equipment.
  • Properly identifies patient images. Validates all images and corrects incorrect information prior to sending to VISTA for interpretation by the Radiologist.
  • Help to maintain effective control for the Radiology Department by coordinating organizing and executing the work potential to expedite workflow patterns with the department.
  • Ensures that adequate quantities of supplies for general Radiology are available.
  • Assures that procedure rooms are always stocked with necessary supplies, with special attention to emergent equipment and supplies. Alerts supervisor when supplies are needed.
  • Must recognize and report major equipment malfunctions within a timely manner. Ensures that all equipment is in proper working order prior to use. Removes and tags defective equipment and notifies DRT Supervisor or Chief Technologist.
  • Responsible for making routine calibration on equipment.
  • Successfully completes all required educational classes and successfully receives all Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as governed by the ARRT, to maintain and active status with the ARRT.
  • Work with Medical Support Staff to schedule and prepare patients for examinations and explain procedures to patients while performing studies.
  • Maintains records and files of exams performed on patients. Includes the maintenance of patient registration and editing of patient exams in the computerized information system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must have exceptional customer service skills.
  • Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision
  • Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills.

Education:

  • Graduate from an approved program or School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience in specialty.
  • Certification: ARMD Sonography Certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
  • License: Have and maintain a valid, unrestricted license in any state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S and/or certification as required.

Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:

  • The expected duty hours for this position are 8-12 hours per day and 3-5 days per week.
  • However, this key position supporting 24/7/365 operations which may require work to be conducted in the day, at night, on weekends, and during holidays.
  • These positions are subject to rotating tours of duty (days, evenings, weekends and holidays) with the following availabilities. Please ensure your recruiter knows your availability.
  • Monday – Friday 9 am – 5:30 pm
  • Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm
  • Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm / Saturday – Sunday 7:00 am – 7:00 pm
  • Saturday – Sunday 7:00 pm – 7:00 am
  • Sunday – Monday 7:00 pm – 7:00 am

  • Location: Decatur, GA (Atlanta, GA - VA Medical System)

Travel:

  • As required to satisfy the contractual obligations. Commute is non-compensatory. All official travel is government funded.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit for more than 8 hours per day, must be willing to work overtime if necessary.
  • Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 10 feet.
  • Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.
  • Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment
  • Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS).
