Classification: Full-Time

Shift: Various – must be available to weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Pay Rate: The pay rate for this role is $26.50.

Union Position: This position is part of the Local 1 Union which requires complete open availability. We are not able to accommodate schedule restrictions and full-time hours are not guaranteed. Hours and schedule are based on seniority and business needs.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Handyman/Public Area Attendant supports the housekeeping team by maintaining cleanliness and organization throughout the hotel. This role is responsible for ensuring that common areas, hallways, restrooms, back of house spaces, elevators, hotel exterior, lower level facilities and other designated workspaces remain clean, safe and well-stocked. The Handyman/Public Area Attendant primary job duty is to ensure all front of house and back of house areas are clean and well maintained including lobby, outside meeting rooms spaces, workout facilities, hotel exterior, lower level facilities, restrooms, elevators and back of house spaces.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Clean and vacuum, mop and stock front of house, meeting spaces and back of house restrooms and showers

· Remove any marks and clean glass in all front of house and back of house areas

· Clean and vacuum, mop floor surfaces in front of house and back of house spaces using designated chemicals, supplies and equipment

· Dust surfaces in assigned areas

· Empty trash containers, ashtrays and ash urns in front of house area into proper container

· Inspect condition of furniture for tears, rips, and stains and report damages

· Clean and maintain lights in all front of house spaces

· Post caution signs and wet floor sign to limit traffic when necessary

· Contact other departments directly for urgent repairs

· Respond promptly to requests from guests and other departments

· Identify and report preventative or other maintenance issues in public areas or guest rooms

· Clean, maintain and store cleaning equipment

· Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or broken equipment to the appropriate department.

· Follow established cleaning procedures and adhere to safety and infection-control guidelines.

· Support deep-cleaning projects and seasonal tasks as assigned.

· Deliver duvets to guestrooms, replace bed skirts and bed wheels

· Assist with fixing and replacing vacuums and other large pieces of equipment

· Assist with cleaning hotel exterior surfaces including power washing, window washing, carpet cleaning, watering outside plants and cleaning dock/valet areas

· Shoveling snow and pouring salt during winter season months

· Select appropriate cleaning chemicals and necessary personal protective equipment for various surfaces and cleaning jobs, following OSHA regulations and hotel policies.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Strong attentional to detail and commitment to cleanliness
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace for written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must possess basic computational ability.
  • Must be able to speak to guests and co-workers using clear, appropriate and professional language
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to operate housekeeping tools and equipment (e.g., carts, vacuums, buffers—if applicable).
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent walking, standing, twisting, pulling, bending, lifting, and carrying items up to 10–55 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull housekeeping carts and equipment.
  • Occasional climbing of ladders or step stools.
  • Ability to be on feet for extended periods.
  • Shovel snow up to 55 pounds
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motions and tasks requiring manual dexterity.

AVAILABILITY

This company operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day. At times it may be necessary to move you from your accustomed work day, to include Holidays, or time of work if business or task assignments demand. In addition, it should be understood that business needs determines the amount of hours that you work.
