Opportunity

Position: Animal Centre Supervisor

Summary: We are seeking a resilient and organized individual with exceptional communications skills to join our team in the role of Animal Centre Supervisor. The Animal Centre Supervisor (“ACS”) plays an onsite supervisory role in the Animal Centre overseeing the day-to-day general operations as a support to the Operations Manager. In this position you will actively lead and coordinate daily rounds, staff scheduling, daily huddles and animal pathway planning. The ACS will provide training, guidance and direction to animal centre staff to ensure the safe an efficient operation of the centre.

A Typical Day

  • Lead and delegate reception and administration duties, including greeting the public, answering phones and maintaining animal records
  • Lead daily rounds and morning team huddles
  • Oversee and maintain accurate records for animal inventory, health, medications, treatments, procedures and behavior history
  • Ensure enrichment plans are being implemented, monitored and results recorded
  • In conjunction with the Animal Behaviour Coordinator, provide training and support to the animal care team on animal behaviour and the Behaviour Program
  • Develop partnerships with key stakeholders to preserve animal care as a top priority
  • Animal handling including lifting, carrying and restraining when necessary
  • Ensure regular animal enrichment based on the needs of the animal, including but not limited to exercising, engaging in play activities, and providing novel experience/tastes/smells
  • Provide a consistent and stress-reduced environment through shelter protocols and Fear Free best practices
  • Supervise all volunteers, co-op placements and fosters
  • Meet with Centre staff daily to provide training, guidance and foster positive working relationships with the focus on high standard of animal care
  • Meet daily with the Operations Manager providing updates on team health, training, staffing levels and overall morale

Set up for Success!

  • Animal Care experience required
  • Certificate or College Diploma in Animal Care (or equivalent education plus work experience) required
  • 1-3 years of supervisory and/or leadership experience
  • 1 year of customer service experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and commitment to animal welfare practices and philosophies
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of MS Office applications and POS system
  • Clerical and/or office administration experience an asset
  • Must have open availability including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lift 18 kg (40lbs) and control 45 kg (100lbs)
  • Valid G drivers’ license with the ability to provide a clear driver’s abstract
