Position Title: First Article Inspector

FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Full- Time
Job Summary:
The First Article Inspector is responsible for verifying that initial production parts and assemblies meet all specified requirements before full-scale manufacturing begins. This role involves performing detailed inspections using precision measurement tools, reviewing engineering drawings and specifications, and documenting results to ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal quality standards. The position supports the validation of manufacturing processes by identifying discrepancies early, helping to prevent defects, reduce rework, and ensure consistent product quality throughout production.
Key Responsibilities:
· Perform First Article Inspections (FAIs) in accordance with AS9102 standards and internal quality requirements.
· Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions to verify part compliance.
· Utilize precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM, etc.) to inspect parts and components.
· Document inspection results accurately using FAI forms and reports.
· Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to resolve non-conformances and clarify inspection criteria.
· Ensure all documentation is complete and compliant with customer and regulatory standards.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for process or quality enhancements.
· Maintain organized records and inspection reports for audits and traceability.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree (preferred).
· 2+ years of experience in quality inspection or a similar role in a manufacturing or aerospace environment (preferred).
Skills:
· Strong computer skills, including experience with quality software and Microsoft Office Suite.
· Excellent attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
· Experience with CMM programming and operation.
· Knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 standards and quality management systems (preferred).
· Familiarity with AS9102 and industry inspection standards.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing inspection tasks
· Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle small parts and operate precision measurement tools
· Ability to use a computer and related equipment for data entry and documentation
· Close visual acuity to inspect components, read technical drawings, and identify defects
· Ability to perform repetitive motions such as measuring, recording, and handling parts
· Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move materials up to 25 pounds
· Ability to bend, reach, and move within a manufacturing or inspection environment
