Bus Driver - Part-Time in SCOTCH PLAINS, New Jersey at JCC OF CENTRAL NJ INC

The JCC of Central NJ is a non-profit agency whose mission is to educate, enrich and empower our community – from generation to generation. The JCC offers educational, recreational, fitness & wellness, cultural and communal programs and activities to people of all abilities and all stages of life.

Summary of Position:

The JCC is looking for a responsible, experienced bus driver who enjoys working with children and older adults to transport them to the JCC for programming via a school bus and/or omnibus. This is a year-round, part-time overtime non-exempt position who reports to various Program Directors depending on the season. Approximate work schedule is: Monday-Thursday 5-6 hours per day (broken up between morning and afternoon); Fridays 2 hours (total 25-28 hours per week); summer seasonal schedule may vary.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safely operate passenger vehicle on a regular schedule (and special schedule, as needed)
• Check operating condition of the bus before starting on a trip
• Report any operational defect to immediate superior
• Inform children about safety practices
• Provide physical assistance to older adults upon entering and departing the bus
• Assist older adults with loading/unloading mobility devices such as walkers
• Keep interior and exterior of vehicle clean and neat
• Maintain records of mileage, routes, time and incidents
• Conduct bus evacuation drills twice each year
• Maintain current, unexpired NJ MVC required documents (CDL, Medical Examiner's Certificate, etc)
• Assist with transporting buses to yearly inspection
• Bring buses in for quarterly service, and other service appointments as needed

Requirements:

• Must have current, unexpired minimum Class C Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with P and S endorsements
• Previous bus driving experience and excellent driving history required
• Must meet NJ MVC requirements for operating a school bus, including having a CDL holder Self-Certification document along with a Medical Examiner's Certificate issued within the last 2 years
• Criminal background check and fingerprinting required

Physical Demands:

• Drive a motor vehicle for a few hours at a time
• Physically assist older adults in safely entering and departing the bus, including navigating the stairs
• Assist older adults with loading/unloading mobility devices such as walkers
