At Merrimack Health, we are committed to pay transparency and equity. The base salary range is $40.50 (Min) — $60.18 hourly (Max), excluding fringe benefits and potential bonuses.

Your final base salary will be determined based on your education, experience, licensure, and internal equity considerations. Offers are typically made below the top of the range to support future salary growth.

JOB SUMMARY:

As the Lead Technologist, Cardiac Cath Lab, you will be under the direct supervision of the Cath Lab Director, who is primarily responsible for maintaining current knowledge in the area of image quality, radiation safety, cath lab procedures and performance improvement. Will have demonstrated, through specialized training and experience, the knowledge and skills required to care for the patient undergoing a diagnostic catheterization, angioplasty, or pacemaker/ICD implantation procedures. Ensures optimum patient care and safety. Work cooperatively within departments and other services to create quality patient care. The Lead Technologist for the Cardiac Catheterization Lab serves as a key technical expert responsible for day-to-day operations, oversight of equipment, inventory management, and monitoring of radiation safety.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensures image quality and radiation safety standards are met (ALARA principles).
  • Maintain compliance with radiation safety standards, quality control, and Joint Commission/AAMI guidelines.
  • Oversee accurate record keeping of procedures, equipment uses, and radiation doses.
  • Provide leadership compliance with hospital policies, state/federal laws, and regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission, OSHA).
  • Participate in audits, accreditation processes, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Attend quarterly organization radiation safety meetings and communicate any updates or concerns with the cardiac catheterization management and staff.

Leadership & Workflow Management

  • Provide training, orientation, and ongoing mentorship to technologists and students.
  • Promote a positive and professional, team-focused environment that supports safety and excellence in patient care.
  • Monitor staff competency, report any concerns to the Program Manager, and assist with planning and implementation of process improvement initiatives.
  • Completes a radiation technologist's monthly schedule.
  • Serve as a liaison between Cath Lab technologists and departmental leadership to communicate technical needs, address workflow challenges, and assist in resolving operational issues.
  • Maintains accurate data records and monitors statistical trends to support compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.

Equipment, Operation & Maintenance

  • Operate and maintain all imaging equipment, contrast injectors, and PACS systems.
  • Perform routine quality assurance checks, troubleshoot technical problems and prompt notification from Biomed Engineering as needed.
  • Responsible for inventory management of imaging and procedural supplies to avoid shortages or overstock in collaboration with the Program Manager.

EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • A degree from an Accredited School of Radiology Technology.
  • Current Registered Radiology Technologist Licensure in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Current ARRT, BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a cardiac catheterization lab.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Must possess interpersonal skills to interact with patients, patient’s families, and coworkers. Must be a team player.
  • In-depth knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and sterile techniques
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to mentor and motivate
  • Proficiency in PACS, EMR, and radiographic equipment operation
  • Ability to remain calm and efficient in high-pressure, critical care situations
  • Strong commitment to patient care, teamwork, and continuous improvement
