About This Position

Description:

Wheeler Machinery is seeking a full-time Technical Instructor 1 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Technical Instructor is responsible for class preparation and instruction of Wheeler Machinery technical service courses. They ensure that each participant can demonstrate the knowledge and/or skills outlined in the course objectives that align with their job responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work safely in all aspects of the business and keep students safe while in training.
  • Develop and instruct all technical service courses at company training facilities throughout the territory (travel will be required).
  • Assess students understanding and capabilities, passing students when they meet all the learning outcomes and communicating with the training coordinator and manager when they don’t.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical repair of heavy equipment, including basic operation.
  • Work with content developers providing support for online pre-requisite courses and labs.
  • Provide course feedback and updates on course content and revisions as needed.
  • Support peers in their course preparations and development to help meet high standards of training quality and facilitation skills, create engaging, fun classroom environments with practical, relevant activities and application.
  • Build strong departmental relationships with peers, managers, and co-workers to enhance the technical training program and drive growth.
  • Submit all reports as needed.
  • Represent the department, and the company in the highest standard. Do this through professional conduct, appearance, and integrity.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Impeccable safety record, demonstrating a profound understanding and ability to work safely and lead others in safety practices.
  • Minimum 6 years work experience in a diesel industry trade, working with technicians and shop or job site experience.
  • Experience performing repairs and maintenance on Heavy Earthmoving equipment with advanced knowledge in engines, electrical, hydraulic and other machine systems.
  • Capable of solving problems and troubleshooting.
  • Adaptable to varying work environments, situations and social interactions.
  • Capable of activities such as stand, lift, bend, kneel, crawl and working in awkward position. Must be able to lift 50 lbs., mount and dismount equipment at heights, and maneuver and operate heavy machinery.
  • Travel will be required (approximately 15%)
  • Experience with computer systems, extensive use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent people and communication skills.
  • A positive attitude and patience working with others.

  • Previous experience teaching, coaching, leading or engaging in a more formal environment.
  • Creative mindset, looking for ways to improve content and delivery.
  • Comfortable talking and presenting in a classroom setting.
  • Able to simplify complex ideas.
  • Good organizational abilities.
  • Strong desire to share your knowledge and experience with others.
