Job Description: WALL MAINTENANCE

Hours: Vary, Non-Exempt

Reports to: Head Setter

Compensation: Hourly

Wall Maintenance

The Wall Maintenance Lead is responsible for the oversight and direction of the Wall Maintenance Crew at the Austin Bouldering Project. Individuals in this position will regularly work the 3 Wall Maintenance stripping shifts, occasional shifts in preparation for events, and additional day-time hours as decided by the Head Setter. They are responsible for maintaining the quality of all Wall Maintenance work, as laid out in communicated expectations and working with Wall Maintenance Specialists to ensure they are trained properly and following all expectations laid out for their position. The Wall Maintenance Lead is also responsible for maintaining the Setting Shop and maintaining the inventory of setting and wall maintenance supplies.

General Responsibilities

SUPERVISION OF WALL MAINTENANCE CREW

  • Ensure all Wall Maintenance Crew members arrive and leave on time for their scheduled shifts
  • Enforce Wall Maintenance and ABP Employee Expectations
  • Maintain a safe working environment and enforce ABP safety standards
  • Train Wall Maintenance employees
  • Ensure the quality of work meets communicated expectations, and that all work procedures are properly followed
  • Communicate any behavioral or professional problems to the Head Setter
  • Work with the Head Setter to ensure sufficient staffing for the planned work
  • Distribute workloads appropriately, accounting for training, experience and aptitude
  • Think critically about working practices, and make suggestions for improvements
  • Maintain an open line of communication with the Head Setter about the state of the Wall Maintenance Program

MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF EQUIPMENT AND WORK AREAS

  • Maintain in good repair all Setting and Wall Maintenance equipment
  • Keep an inventory of all necessary supplies, and work with Head Setter to order missing items
  • Manage a Boulder Problem Refreshing Schedule, and work with the Setters to update it
  • Repair volumes as needed
  • Repair climbing walls as needed
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Setting and Volume Shops

WORKING CONDITIONS

Wall Maintenance Lead works with the Wall Maintenance Crew during operating hours. Shifts are scheduled 3 times per week, usually beginning at 7 am and working until the job is complete to communicated standards. Occasional special events may require additional shifts during evening hours. Day-time shifts will be assigned to the Lead as needed.
