About the role
- The Machine Operator II is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring the Panel Express machine to produce high-quality laminated panels that consistently meet specifications. This role requires a strong attention to detail, precision in machine setup, monitoring, and adjustments, and the ability to identify even minor defects or process deviations while collaborating with supervision, team leads, and maintenance to resolve equipment issues efficiently.
What you'll do
- 1. Set up, change over, operate, and closely monitor the Lamination Panel Express machine according to detailed production specifications and internal work instructions.
- 2. Monitor production runs making approved machine adjustments to ensure proper lamination, bonding, alignment, and surface finish quality.
- 3. Must pay attention to detail to ensure that the laminate being applied is correct per the work orders and the panels are properly and clearly labeled.
- 4. Identify, document, and report quality issues or process variations promptly
- 5. Perform daily machine cleaning and any minor tasks assigned by maintenance as part of the preventive maintenance program.
- 6. Work closely with maintenance technicians to identify, diagnose, and resolve mechanical or electrical issues. Reports malfunctions, equipment issues or material defects to the department manager in a timely manner to ensure the safety of employees, reduce waste and mitigate production delays.
- 7. Accurately complete production records, quality checks, and downtime documentation.
- 8. Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members regarding quality concerns, material issues, or production delays
- 9. Maintain a clean, organized, and detail-focused work area
- 10. Perform other duties as assigned by the department manager which may include assisting in other departments.
- 11. Works closely with complementary departments to plan and secure all production materials necessary to meet production schedule. Work efficiently with a process improvement mind set.
- 12. Strictly adheres to all safety rules and PPE guidelines; performs tasks in such a manner as to prevent personal injury and/or damage to plant equipment. Immediately reports any potential, unsafe conditions as well as all accidents and injuries to departmental manager.

Education and Experience
- 1. Education: High School Diploma / GED
- 2. Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience operating industrial machinery in a manufacturing/production environment. Experience with lamination preferred.
- 3. Licensing/Certification: Must have a valid driver’s license and must obtain Forklift Certification as necessary for position.
- 4. Communication: Ability to communicate effectively and interact with all levels of employees from different departmental disciplines.
- 5. Organization: Must be capable of balancing workload to accommodate periodic changes in production schedule and occasional “high priority” additions/corrections necessary to meet customer expectations.
- 6. Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision. Ability to work a flexible schedule including mandatory overtime.
- 7. Ability to train/mentor Machine Operator I co-workers on safe and effective, proper operation of industrial machinery to achieve succession planning objectives while improving the knowledge, skills and abilities of both the trainer and the trainee.
- 8. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Basic literacy, measurement, and mathematical skills (simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills to recognize problematic situations, analyze them, exhibit the ability to seek counsel and take action to resolve them.
- Strong mechanical skills and an aptitude for hands-on work
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to stand for extensive periods of time. Manual labor, to include gross and fine motor skills, is extensive. The ability to lift merchandise and materials weighing up to 65lbs, while adhering to the company safety policy for lifting, is frequent. Occasional tasks, such as climbing on ladders or equipment may be necessary to make adjustments or minor repairs, after following proper lockout, tagout safety procedures.
Environmental Conditions
Work performed under normal manufacturing plant and warehouse conditions, without climate control. Temperatures, noise volume and air quality may be considered to some as slightly disagreeable. The company will furnish all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at no cost to the employee, and the company is committed to complying with regulatory inspection for the safety and wellbeing of those employed.
