The HR Coordinator supports Austin Telco’s mission by enhancing the quality of life for our members and team members through professional service in the functional areas of payroll, benefits, and compensation. This role combines perceptive analytical skills with technical payroll and human resources database management to drive organizational efficiency and employee goodwill. The HR Coordinator contributes to the preparation and review of payroll activities, salary adjustments, and year-end processing to support the business needs of the credit union.
What You’ll Do:Payroll & Compensation Management
- Assist with semi-monthly payroll by supporting timesheet review, pay changes, deductions, and bonus/incentive payouts.
- Support compensation processes by calculating performance-based salary changes and managing related adjustments and statements.
- Coordinate key compensation deadlines with supervisors and process year-end payroll tasks.
- Maintain the ability to process payroll independently to ensure organizational continuity.
Benefits Administration & Oversight
- Support benefits administration by maintaining enrollment data and processing disability and COBRA events.
- Coordinate open enrollment by managing scheduling, data entry, and assisting employees with elections.
- Verify benefits billing by reviewing carrier invoices and reconciling enrollment data to identify discrepancies.
- Assist with benefits audits by gathering documentation, validating data accuracy, and preparing materials for approval.
Operational Excellence & Compliance
- Process federal and state compliance reporting, including Section 125 requirements and 5500 filings.
- Maintain HR databases and systems to ensure accurate salary, benefit, and employee information.
- Organize and maintain all HR documentation, including regulatory materials and record retention.
- Evaluate and enhance HR policies and systems to streamline workflows and automate tasks.
Employee Engagement & Support
- Provide professional, service-focused support to employees regarding payroll, benefits, and HR inquiries.
- Contribute to employee engagement, culture and wellness initiatives by supporting recognition programs and wellness-focused events.

- Represent Austin Telco FCU in professional contacts with consultants, vendors, and trade professionals.
Internal Communication & Support
- Respond to internal inquiries and departmental requests to maintain seamless communication.
- Collaborate with HR leadership on daily operational needs and departmental projects.
- Support membership-focused organizational goals through internal service excellence.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in general HR functions, including related experience in payroll, benefits, or compensation.
- Specialized Knowledge: Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local labor laws, as well as payroll systems and benefits administration policies.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office Suite and experience managing HR databases.
- Communication: Ability to provide professional, accurate, and prompt guidance to employees and external partners.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required. (Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or Communications preferred; PHR and/or SHRM-CP certification preferred).
