What You Will Do:

Job Summary:

The Journey AOD III is responsible for providing trauma informed group counseling services to participants enrolled in the Youth Offender Program (YOP). This includes a variety of services including assessment, treatment planning, participant education, documentation, follow-up, etc. The clinician’s primary responsibility will be to provide quality clinical care through group therapy with collaboration of CDCR DRP, CCHS and DAI institution staff.

Essential Duties:

  • Delivers approved trauma informed curriculum-based programming services to participants.
  • Provides and conduct trauma-informed groups using trauma-informed curricula; structured and gender-responsive trauma-informed groups. Conduct multiple groups daily and/or individual sessions as necessary.
  • Participates in case conferences and provide guidance in determining education and vocational goals based on the interest and preferences of each participant in addition to individualized assessments.
  • Maintains participant supervision, including development of the treatment plan, review of client’s files, and initial and or ongoing client assessments.
  • Evaluates and documents the progress of participants assigned to their groups.
  • Documents the delivery of programming services in ARMS and other documentation as required.
  • Work with the participants to develop and implement a treatment/action plan.
  • Engage participants daily, reinforce group rules and expectation for participations and completion.
  • Work collaboratively with Facilitator Inmates and OMCP Mentors as needed during group sessions.
  • Work collaboratively with CDCR DRP, CCHS and DAI institution staff.
  • Attend workshops, meetings, and trainings as requested by supervisor.
  • May serve as Community Advocate role in addition to job as requested by community leadership.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
What You Will Bring:

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • A Masters degree in a social service related field or mental health related field; and licensed in good standing with BBS; or
  • Registered and in good standing with BBS and six months of experience providing CBI services: or
  • Certified and in good standing with an AOD certifying organization recognized by DHCS: or
  • A bachelor’s degree, AOD certified and six months of experience providing SUD services as a certified AOD Counselor: or
  • An associate degree, AOD certified and one year of experience providing SUD services as a certified AOD counselor: or
  • AOD Certified and more than (2) years of experience providing SUD services as a certified AOD counselor

Certifications or Licenses:

Required:

  • Licensed or registered by the Board of Behavioral Sciences or AOD Certification by a DHCS recognized organization and maintain current and active license/certification that is not under suspension or probation.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse; appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical and social effects of drug abuse.
  • Knowledge of contractual requirements of contract is essential.
  • Operational knowledge of MS-Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressures generated by association with substance abuse treatment participants.
  • Ability to provide genuine warmth, empathy and honest sensitivity to participants to facilitate positive change.
  • Ability to provide participants with frequent acknowledgment and reinforcement for positive behaviors, as well as consistent and predictable feedback for negative behaviors, which may include reporting violations to CDCR staff.
  • Ability to develop a treatment alliance with participants.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written communications and typing skills.
  • Ensure that excellence and integrity are applied to professional responsibilities in order to provide optimal services to participants.
  • Understand and appropriately apply Amity policies and procedures and adhere to agency-wide practices and regulations.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior in order to maintain professional standards and safeguard the participant.
  • Protect and maintain participants’ health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.
  • Demonstrate proper attitudes and techniques towards faculty, institution staff, and participant.
  • Model professionalism, effective work habits and responsible living.
