Position Summary

The Resident Life Associate (RLA) is responsible for managing all aspects of facility operations during assigned shifts to ensure a safe, secure, and clean environment for approximately 80 residents, including adults and children. RLAs work in three shifts:

  • 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

  • 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM

  • 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM

While each staff member is typically assigned to a shift, flexibility is essential to maintain coverage across all shifts. RLAs ensure smooth transitions between shifts and continuous service to residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations of the shelter during assigned shift.

  • Provide support to the Resident Life Associate Lead and other team members.

  • Coordinate and oversee resident transportation requests.

  • Supervise and assist residents with cleaning and upkeep of common areas, including dormitories, bathrooms, dining hall, children’s playroom, and hallways.

  • Maintain accurate records in admissions ledgers and communication logs; review prior shift notes to ensure continuity.

  • Answer shelter phone calls, handle crisis information and referrals, and forward messages promptly to appropriate staff.

  • Enforce shelter rules and address violations according to policy, involving the RLA Lead as needed.

  • Perform safety and security checks, including monitoring surveillance systems and limiting facility access to authorized individuals.

  • Conduct facility rounds—checking both the interior and exterior of the building to ensure safety and order.

  • Keep detailed logs of rounds, noting any issues and actions taken.

  • Report equipment, safety, or security concerns immediately to the RLA Lead.

  • Maintain cleanliness in staff areas, including sweeping, mopping, and restocking supplies.

  • Track and verify daily and nightly census counts.

  • Complete daily shift task lists fully and accurately.

  • Assist residents with needs such as transportation, meals, personal care items, and case management coordination.

  • Support meal preparation, service, kitchen cleaning, and donation room organization.

  • Identify and report facility maintenance concerns via work order system.

  • Supervise volunteers as appropriate.

  • Participate in training, team meetings, and professional development.

  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold residents’ rights to privacy at all times.

  • Be flexible with scheduling to support emergencies and agency needs.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Related life/work experience or training in human services, health, or customer service preferred.

  • Basic computer skills required.
