About This Position
Pharmacist
Contract Duration: 1-Year (Full-Time)Location: Crownpoint Health Care Facility (CHCF), Navajo Area Indian Health Service (NAIHS)Work Schedule:-Shifts may include Monday to Friday, weekends, and holidays.-8- or 10-hour shifts determined by departmental needs. -Examples: 7:15 AM4:15 PM, 8:00 AM5:00 PM, 9:00 AM6:00 PM, 10:00 AM7:00 PM, etc.-Shifts include a 30-minute to 1-hour lunch break.
Overview:The Pharmacist will provide professional pharmacist services to support the Indian Health Service (IHS) mission, ensuring timely and appropriate patient care. This role requires direct collaboration with healthcare teams and adherence to Joint Commission (JTC) standards while respecting cultural sensitivities of the Navajo community.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. General Pharmacy Services:-Provide professional pharmacy services, including patient care management.-Perform duties under supervision of the Supervisor or Contracting Officer Representative (COR).-Ensure compliance with Human Resources GS-660 job standards.
2. Patient Care and Documentation:-Utilize the CHCF Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to maintain accurate medical records.-Provide medication therapy management, including patient assessments, treatment adjustments, and outcome monitoring.-Document all clinical activities, including medication allergies, treatment plans, and problem lists.
3. Operational Pharmacy Support:-Perform ancillary duties:-Front desk/reception tasks and answering phone calls.-Reconstitute vaccines as needed.-Inspect medications for expiration.-Refill prescriptions and manage pre-packs.-Organize controlled substances with witness verification.-Manage pharmacy stock returns and deliveries.
4. Compliance and Safety:-Follow IHS infection control, safety procedures, and Joint Commission standards.-Participate in departmental peer reviews and quality assurance programs.-Adhere to safety management protocols and adverse event reporting requirements.
5. Cultural Competency:-Respect cultural and linguistic barriers, incorporating cultural considerations into patient care.-Understand Navajo community health practices, ceremonies, and rural living conditions.
6. Administrative Requirements:-Submit time sheets and work records for service verification.-Maintain proper care of government-furnished property and quarters.-Adhere to applicable Federal, State, and local tax and travel policies.
Required Qualifications:-Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.-Active, unrestricted Pharmacist license in a U.S. state.-Experience working in outpatient or inpatient pharmacy settings.-Proficiency with EHR systems; CHCF will provide specific training.-Strong communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:-Experience working in Native American communities.-Familiarity with Joint Commission standards and IHS protocols.-Ability to perform culturally competent care and respect for diverse patient needs.
