We have an immediate need for a skilled Laboratory Technician in Austin, TX.
Responsibilities:
- Receives specimens submitted by medical providers for testing
- Opens and inspects specimens to assure adequacy for testing
- Logs in samples, inputs patient name, tests requested and client demographics into the LIS
- Assist in handling samples for storage after testing is complete
- Perform data entry and maintains critical documentation
- Run calibrator/controls on AU400
- Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration related to each AU400 test performed
- Has a working knowledge of reagent stability and storage
- Has an awareness of the factors that influence test results and the skills required to assess and verify the validity of patient test results through the evaluation of quality control sample values prior to reporting patient test results
- Aliquots patient samples
- Conducts pre-analytical evaluations for samples and specimens according to test request(s) and has the authority to reject specimens for not meeting specimen acceptability requirements
- Determines acceptability and assigns accession numbers for all specimens that are suitable for laboratory testing
- Ensures that all requisition forms are properly completed
- Participates in proficiency testing and maintains a record of on-going competency
- Washes laboratory glassware and maintains general laboratory cleanliness
- Records daily logs for temperature & humidity, refrigerator and freezer temperatures, and incubator temperature and reports and deviations to supervisor
- Perform and maintain log of weekly preventative maintenance for eyewash, sonicator, centrifuge, and incubator
- Checks and verifies accuracy of work performed by following the Standard Operating Procedural Manual (SOP)
Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications:
- BS in a life science (i.e. Biology, Chemistry) required.
- At least one year of data entry experience.
- At least one year of running AU 400 or similar instrument (highly preferred)
- At least one year of LCMS laboratory experience (preferred).
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and perform multiple priorities.
- Cooperative and professional behavior toward patients, peers, providers, management and visitors.
- Ability to promote favorable facility image with patients, providers and general public.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, meet deadlines, and solve problems.
- Ability to contribute in a team environment and provide excellent customer service.
- Knowledge of legal issues with releasing medical information and awareness of all HIPAA regulations pertinent to medical records.
- Ability to meet and able to document compliance with CLIA and COLA requirements.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, grasping, and carrying.
- Occasional reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, and crouching.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 30 pounds, with assistance if needed.
- Frequent use of computer, keyboard, copy and fax machine and phone
- This position may perform tasks which involve exposure to bodily fluid (blood, tissue, urine, bile, peritoneal fluid, etc.).
