About This Position

Position Summary
The Integrated STEM Teacher is responsible for supporting K–5 classrooms by co-teaching and integrating STEM learning into daily Literacy and Math instruction. This teacher works collaboratively with classroom teachers to plan and deliver hands-on, inquiry-based STEM experiences that enhance core curriculum instruction, foster problem-solving skills, and promote student engagement across multiple subject areas. The role emphasizes project-based learning, real-world applications, and interdisciplinary connections to prepare students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Collaborates with classroom teachers in weekly co-planning sessions to design integrated STEM lessons, align instruction, and embed STEM learning into Literacy, Math, and other core subjects.
Provides push-in instructional support across K–5 classrooms, helping teachers incorporate STEM concepts and hands-on learning experiences into core instruction.
Co-teaches on a rotating basis across grade levels (K–5) to model effective STEM integration and support the implementation of interdisciplinary lessons.
Designs and implements rigorous, engaging STEM learning experiences aligned with NYS Learning Standards and school curricula.
Uses instructional strategies that promote inquiry, critical thinking, collaboration, and student ownership of learning.
Supports classroom teachers in integrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts into Literacy, Math, and other subject areas through modeling, coaching, and shared instruction.
Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Language Learners and students with IEPs.
Incorporating and hands-on materials to enhance student engagement and learning.
Uses formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress, guide instruction, and provide targeted support.
Develops and reinforces classroom routines and procedures that support effective collaboration and maximize instructional time.
Collaborates with colleagues to support school-wide STEM initiatives and interdisciplinary projects.
Participates in weekly grade-level team meetings to plan integrated learning opportunities, analyze student data, and coordinate STEM support.
Attends PLCs (Professional Learning Community) meetings to share instructional practices, engage in professional dialogue, and support school-wide improvement goals.
Builds students’ oral language and communication skills through collaborative STEM activities, presentations, and discussions.
Fosters students’ social-emotional growth through teamwork, problem solving, and responsive classroom practices.
Maintains regular, respectful communication with parents/guardians to share student progress and classroom information when appropriate.
Participates in school-wide events, family engagement activities, and professional development opportunities.
Uses Google Workspace and other digital tools for instruction, planning, and communication.
Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of current best practices in elementary STEM integration, co-teaching models, and classroom management.
Understanding of CRSE (Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Education) practices and ability to implement them in STEM instruction.
Familiarity with NYS standards and effective strategies for embedding STEM into Literacy and Math instruction.
Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with students, teachers, families, and colleagues.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Capacity for self-reflection, feedback, and professional growth.
Qualifications Profile
Fingerprint clearance from NYS Department of Education.
Ability to work flexible hours for parent-teacher conferences, family events, and school activities.
Proficiency in using standard classroom technology, including interactive whiteboards, laptops, coding platforms, and digital tools for STEM integration.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, STEM-related field, or related discipline preferred.
Master’s Degree in Education or related field preferred.
Certification
Valid New York State Teaching Certificate in Childhood Education (Grades 1–6) or Early Childhood Education (Birth–Grade 2) preferred.
Experience
Prior teaching experience in an urban or high-needs setting is preferred.
Experience with co-teaching, co-planning, project-based, or inquiry-based instruction is strongly desired.
Experience working with diverse student populations and implementing CRSE strategies.
