JOB DETAILS

Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a highly experienced technical contributor responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of the company’s products and mechanical systems. Within a 45-person organization, this role combines deep technical expertise with hands-on involvement in product development, prototyping, manufacturing support, and field problem-solving.

In a smaller company environment, the Senior Mechanical Engineer plays a critical role in both strategic and day-to-day engineering execution—driving innovation while ensuring designs are practical, manufacturable, reliable, and aligned with business objectives. This individual collaborates closely with engineering leadership, production, sales, service, and operations to deliver high-quality solutions that support company growth and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Product Design & Development

Lead the design and development of new products, systems, and components from concept through production.Create detailed mechanical designs, 3D models, drawings, and specifications.Perform engineering analysis, calculations, and validation testing.Apply design for manufacturability (DFM) principles to ensure efficient production.Evaluate materials, components, and technologies to enhance performance and reliability.Drive continuous improvement initiatives for existing products.

Prototyping, Testing & Validation

Support prototype builds and conduct hands-on testing and troubleshooting.Develop and execute validation plans to verify performance, durability, and safety.Analyze test data and implement design refinements as needed.Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Manufacturing & Production Support

Collaborate with production teams to resolve design or process-related challenges.Provide engineering support for assembly, fabrication, and process improvements.Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, and cost control.Assist with implementation of capital improvements and tooling enhancements.Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes.

Project Execution

Manage assigned engineering projects, timelines, and deliverables.Coordinate cross-functional activities to ensure on-time, on-budget completion.Identify technical risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies.Support engineering documentation and change management processes.

Field & Customer Support

Assist with product installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting at customer sites when required.Support technical discussions with customers and sales teams.Contribute to product demonstrations and trade show preparation.Provide clear technical communication and documentation to internal and external stakeholders.

Technical Leadership & Mentorship

Serve as a technical resource and mentor for junior engineers and technical staff.Promote best practices in design, documentation, and engineering standards.Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and systems.Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive products.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related field required.8–12+ years of mechanical design and product development experience.Experience working in a manufacturing or product-based environment preferred.

Technical Skills

Advanced knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing methods.Proficiency in CAD platforms and ERP systems.Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM), tolerance analysis, and testing methodologies.Strong understanding of quality systems and regulatory compliance requirements.Ability to perform engineering calculations and technical analysis independently.

Professional Skills

Strong project management and organizational abilities.Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.Effective communicator capable of translating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.Detail-oriented with strong documentation and follow-through.
