Position Summary:

This position is responsible for operating and maintaining heavy equipment, such as front-end loaders, skid steers, forklifts, etc., to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of materials within the facility. This position requires a skilled operator with a strong focus on safety and attention to detail.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate power equipment to load, unload, and move materials as required.
  • Perform pre- and post-operational inspections of the equipment and report any maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor.
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness and always ensure proper functioning.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to minimize injuries, accidents, and damage to equipment or property.
  • Collaborate with other team members to coordinate material movement and ensure efficient workflow.
  • Adhere to weight and load limitations while prioritizing safety and maintaining optimal productivity.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other personnel to ensure smooth operations.
  • Regularly inspect the work area to identify and correct any hazards or potential safety concerns.
  • Participate in training sessions or meetings to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment in all areas.
  • Follow all safety rules, regulations, and procedures set forth by the Federal and State agencies & Zinc Resources LLC policies.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned to contribute to the overall efficient operation and continuous process improvement of the Company’s other duties as requested.

Minimum Education Qualifications:

  • High School or equivalency required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:

  • 1-3 years’ experience in an industrial environment.
  • Proven experience operating power equipment is strongly preferred.
  • Valid operator's license or certification for operating heavy machinery is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of and commitment to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret and follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Physical stamina to perform demanding tasks, including working in varying weather conditions and lifting heavy objects.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and depth perception skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team environment.
  • Ability to learn rapidly, follow directions, and acquire acceptable work habits such as punctuality, skill, neatness, and dependability.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on a technical level with customers, across organizational lines, and with all levels of management.
  • Must communicate effectively in English and read, understand, and convey work instructions and assignments.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work with little or no supervision.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload efficiently.
  • Ability to operate radio, CB radio, computer, and other equipment as required.
  • Must be able to travel locally to other rail yard operations.
  • Must be able to work irregular shifts, days/nights, and weekends. Requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, respirator, etc.
  • Must be able to pass a lung function test for respirator use.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator for a prolonged period up to 12 hours without restriction.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and work from heights as needed.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, and reach around all areas of equipment.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. to waist level and carry 20 yards.
  • Ability to use hand tools.
  • Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 90 dbs.
  • Will work in varied environments (in all weather conditions, heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, and/or dusty conditions).
  • Exposure to physical hazards due to proximity to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, electrical current, and exposure to chemicals is present.
  • Exposure to oils, fumes, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation may be present.
