Job Description:

Reporting to the QC Manager, the Day Shift Inspection Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Inspection department’s day shift. The supervisor will manage the performance and schedule of personnel within the assigned department and will ensure quality product and service delivery within the scope and timing of the projects. In addition, the supervisor will provide and ensure proper training, workflow methods, and operational techniques of employees. Timely communications and delivery of reports will be required. The supervisor will manage and facilitate policy, procedures, safety practices and standard operating procedures.

Key Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead and mentor Quality Inspectors
  • Conduct performance reviews, coaching sessions, and training plans
  • Ensure 100% certification on required inspection equipment/processes
  • Operational Performance
  • Track and maintain KPIs: first-pass yield, scrap rate, rework rate, inspection throughput, on-time delivery
  • Drive productivity improvements
  • Lead corrective actions to reduce non-conformance
  • Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure AS9100 compliance and adherence to all Quality standards; maintain 100% audit readiness
  • Promote safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Target zero safety incidents
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Coordinate with engineering, production, QA, and management
  • Facilitate cross-shift and cross-department alignment for consistent quality

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with team leaders and members of the department, by continually updating them on all information affecting the efficient and safe operations within the department as dictated by supervisor
  • Liaise with all supporting departments regarding quality assurance and resolution
  • Assist in directing the department in a manner that promotes high morale, teamwork, pride, productivity and quality
  • In coordination with Management, coordinate initiatives to improve workflow and processes
  • Ensure that job performance conflicts are resolved fairly in accordance with the Employee Handbook with assistance of Human Resource Department
  • Maintain knowledge of ongoing relevant changes, trends, inspection technologies, and best practices as they relate to the position and/or department
  • Work in cooperation and coordination with other shift supervisors in the department
  • Supervise daily activities to meet production schedules and quality objectives
  • Monitor workflow and inspection processes for efficiency and compliance
  • Track and report KPIs: non-conformance rates, rework/scrap, inspection cycle time, on-time completion
  • Communicate updates, production priorities, and safety requirements
  • Maintain accurate documentation: corrective action reports, scrap/rework reports, employee evaluations
  • Provide hands-on leadership for complex inspection/quality issues
  • Ensure training on inspection techniques, safety, equipment operation, and documentation
  • Manage performance concerns and conflicts per HR guidelines
  • All other responsibilities, duties and/ or training that are assigned by Management to fulfill business needs

Requirements:

  • Combination of education and experience as listed below:
    • Associate’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of relevant leadership experience
    • High School diploma and 5+ years of relevant manufacturing leadership experience.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years of relevant leadership preferred.
  • Must meet ITAR definition of US Person- documentation required
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and blueprints
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, machining, inspection methods
  • Proficiency with measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges)
  • Analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and leadership skills are required
  • Must be able to follow instructions and clearly communicate information to others verbally and in writing in English
  • Must have the flexibility to work through completion of time critical projects as necessary
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products: Outlook, Excel, Word, and Windows Explorer, etc.
  • Ongoing FAA testing and training is required
  • MTI is a safety sensitive manufacturer. As such, successful results of pre-employment FAA drug testing will be required.

Preferable Experience:

  • Supervisory experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment is preferred
  • 4 or more years’ experience in manufacturing, inspection, or quality environment
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or aerospace quality systems.
  • Managing KPIs, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple shifts and departments.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move throughout the facility/facilities, stand, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and communicate. Work in office environment and use of computer (typical 2-button scroll mouse and keyboard - 45% of the work day). The employee must frequently lift/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
