About This Position
About Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum
Established in 1902, Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum spans hundreds of acres across multiple divisions in Farmingdale, New York. We are one of Long Island’s largest and most respected memorial parks — a place where families find comfort, beauty, and care during life’s most difficult moments. Our grounds and facilities are maintained to the highest standard, because for the families we serve, every detail matters.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Facilities Supervisor to take ownership of building maintenance and facility operations across our campus. This is a working supervisor role — the right candidate will be as comfortable with a wrench as with a work order. You will manage both scheduled preventative maintenance and unscheduled events across all facility systems, lead vendor relationships, and maintain the high standards our families and staff expect. This position operates with significant autonomy and requires someone who takes genuine pride in a well-run facility.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain all mechanical infrastructure systems — electric, sewer, ventilation, and HVAC — across all buildings and structures, including compound buildings, guard booths, administration building, well buildings, and receiving vault.
• Coordinate and oversee mausoleum maintenance: flat roof inspections and repairs, carpet cleaning, painting, and vendor glass cleaning.
• Manage pest control operations: in-house termite bait station monitoring and coordination of exterminator services; engage treatment vendors as needed.
• Oversee daily public restroom inspections, monthly deep cleaning, and all related service documentation.
• Inspect and coordinate maintenance of all cemetery features, including fountains and bronze statues; manage seasonal operations and vendor-performed treatments.
• Manage the staff uniform program: vendor coordination, ordering, distribution, and dress code compliance.
• Lead procurement for all assigned areas: vendor sourcing, competitive pricing (minimum three bids), and purchase approvals per company policy.
• Maintain thorough logs and documentation for all inspections, maintenance activities, and vendor contracts.
Physical Requirements
• Daily hands-on work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including varying weather and temperature conditions.
• Comfortable working at heights on ladders.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
Education / Licenses / Certifications
• Associate degree or trade certification in a mechanical, electrical, or facilities-related discipline required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Valid New York State driver’s license with a clean driving record — required at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
• OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification preferred.
Experience and Skills
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience maintaining facility systems; experience in a cemetery, park, or campus environment a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, locations, and deadlines independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience sourcing and managing outside vendors and contractors, with the ability to set clear standards and hold third parties accountable.
• Comfortable working in a setting that requires professionalism, composure, and sensitivity to grieving families at all times.
• Strong documentation habits — this role requires consistent, accurate record-keeping across all areas of responsibility.
Compensation and Benefits
• Base salary $80,000–$100,000, plus annual performance bonus potential of up to $15,000.
• Company-provided vehicle.
• Three weeks paid vacation, plus personal and sick leave.
• Health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
• 401(k) with company match.
