About This Position
POSITION SUMMARY
The Sports Coordinator supports the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA’s mission by assisting in the development, delivery, and daily operations of high-quality youth sports programming. This role works directly under the Sports Director and plays a key part in program execution, game day operations, and ongoing program growth.
This position is ideal for someone who is eager to learn, grow within sports programming, and take ownership of program quality, participant experience, and operational excellence.
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Status Transition: Hourly through August 1, 2026 ? Full-Time Non-Exempt beginning August 1, 2026
- Benefits Eligibility: Begins August 1, 2026
- PTO Eligibility: Begins September 1, 2026
WORK SCHEDULE EXPECTATIONS
- Weekdays: Typically 10:30 AM – 6:30 PM
- (Programming primarily occurs in the evenings)
- Saturdays: Required (7:00 AM – late afternoon)
- (Game day operations and field support)
This role requires flexibility to meet the needs of programming and seasonal demands.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist the Sports Director in delivering and improving youth sports programming
- Serve as Game Day Manager on Duty, ensuring smooth, safe, and organized operations
- Support field setup, preparation, and maintenance for practices and games
- Coordinate logistics for practices, games, uniforms, and equipment
- Assist with coach and volunteer communication, scheduling, and support
- Help organize teams, schedules, clinics, and special events
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of sports facilities and storage areas
- Monitor program quality and participant experience; help identify opportunities for growth
- Enforce YMCA policies, safety standards, and positive behavior expectations
- Build strong relationships with staff, coaches, parents, and participants

- Organized, dependable, and able to take initiative
- Comfortable working evenings and most Saturdays
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Prior work experience required
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred
- Experience in sports programs, recreation, or youth programming preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to effectively lead and engage with diverse groups of participants, staff, and volunteers
- Ability to manage high-energy environments and make decisions under pressure
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office and Google Office, how to send an email)
- CPR/AED/First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire
