About This Position

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Barback supports the bar team by ensuring the bar area remains fully stocked, organized, and prepared for service. This role assists bartenders with operational tasks including replenishing supplies, maintaining cleanliness, and preparing ingredients and equipment. Working closely with the bartenders and service team, the Barback helps ensure efficient beverage service and contributes to delivering an exceptional guest experience that reflects GAIA’s service standards..

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

  • Assist bartenders in maintaining efficient and seamless beverage service during operating hours.
  • Stock and replenish bar supplies including liquor, beer, wine, ice, garnishes, glassware, and bar tools.
  • Prepare garnishes, juices, and other bar ingredients in accordance with service standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar area, including counters, sinks, storage areas, and equipment.
  • Ensure glassware is cleaned, polished, and readily available for service.
  • Remove empty bottles, trash, and used bar materials promptly to maintain a safe and organized workspace.
  • Assist with restocking refrigerators, kegs, and storage areas throughout service.
  • Support bartenders with basic service needs to ensure guests receive timely beverage service.
  • Assist with opening and closing duties, including setup and breakdown of the bar.
  • Monitor supply levels and communicate restocking needs to the bartending team or management.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with receiving and organizing beverage deliveries.
  • Participate in inventory counts and stock organization.
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Support colleagues during peak service periods and assist with operational duties as required.
  • Report equipment issues, safety concerns, or low inventory levels promptly to management.
  • Attend all required trainings and demonstrate competency in assessments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support GAIA’s service excellence and operational goals.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Prior experience in luxury hospitality, fine dining, or craft cocktail bartending preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mixology, spirits, wine, and beverage service standards.
  • Excellent communication and guest-service skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stand and move for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Certification such as ServSafe or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to adapt to operational changes and follow established procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and move throughout the bar and restaurant areas for extended periods of time (up to 8–10 hours per shift).
  • Regularly required to reach, bend, stoop, and lift or carry items up to 25 pounds such as cases of beverages, ice, or bar supplies.
  • Must be able to safely handle glassware, bar equipment, and cleaning supplies.
  • Manual dexterity required for handling bar tools and service equipment.
  • Ability to hear and communicate clearly in a busy environment.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced luxury hospitality environment with moderate to high noise levels.

  • Exposure to varying temperatures and bar-related equipment.

  • Requires schedule flexibility, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Possible exposure to cleaning agents, alcohol, and standard bar-operation materials.
