Job Description

Patient Care Tech (PCT)- MN Contingent position

Shift: 7pm-7:30am
Unit: Medical Surgical Department

Our highly skilled surgeons and staff play a key role in our success rates and becoming the premier center of choice with 30 surgical beds, and 6 operating rooms.

Role/Position Definition: Responsible for the provision of direct care to patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Practical Nurse. Assists in the assessment and monitoring of patients’ conditions and therapeutic needs. Responsible for the provision of direct care to patients to assist with all Activities of Daily Living (ADL) including elimination, nutritional needs, mobility and emotional support. In addition, accurate completion of vital sign flow sheets, charges for supplies and other duties deemed within their scope of practice.

Qualifications/Position Requirements:

  1. Education/Experience
  1. Completion of a Nurse Aide or Patient Care Technician training program preferred.
  2. 2+ years of experience as a Nurse Aide strongly preferred.
  1. 2+ years of inpatient experience providing care in a hospital setting preferred.

  1. Licensure/Certification
  1. Current unrestricted Nurse Aide License from the State of Michigan preferred.
  2. Current Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare Providers, from the American Heart Association, required.

  1. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  1. Knowledge of BLS protocols in code situations, pain management, wound care, and performance of patient assessments.
  2. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  3. Requires immediate judgment and response; occasionally in response to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills.
  1. Requires high-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care assessment activities.
  1. Requires effective listening and language skills adequate for high-level written and interpersonal communication.
  2. Must possess customer service skills and be able to demonstrate at all times.
  3. Must be able to follow directions, answer call lights, and multi-task.
  1. Ability to assist in actives of daily living and measure/record vital signs.
  2. Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs.
  3. Ability to recognize and process confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
