Job Description
As a Fleet Mechanic A, you will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on fleet vehicles, including truck tractors, trucks, refrigerated trailers, and other fleet equipment. You should be experienced with current automotive technologies and demonstrate strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
SCHEDULE- Sunday–Thursday
- Third Shift: 8:00 p.m. – until work is completed.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance (PMs) on all fleet vehicles.
- Inspect, analyze, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair heavy-duty truck tractors, trucks, trailers, and refrigeration units.
- Disassemble, repair, and reassemble major components, including diesel engines, transmissions, axles, and related systems.
- Perform mobile fleet repairs on company property or during emergency roadside calls using a mobile repair vehicle.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area after each job.
- Wash or fuel trucks as required.
- Perform basic facility repairs and company tool repairs when needed.
- Maintain a safe, clean work environment and promptly report any unsafe conditions or tool issues.
- Drive tractor-trailers and/or trucks for test drives and vehicle transfers.
- Properly use and maintain company tools, requesting guidance when operating unfamiliar equipment.
- Work overtime as needed.
- Provide all required hand tools and lockable toolboxes necessary for the role.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience.
- Class A CDL preferred; must be able to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Must meet DOT medical requirements.
- Ability to comply with EPA and OSHA regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical service manuals.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing operational needs.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to operate and interpret diagnostic software for heavy-duty equipment.
- Ability to work any assigned schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Successful completion of a post-offer medical review.
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Must meet all job description requirements throughout employment.
- Hand/Finger Dexterity: Frequent handling of heavy parts requiring precise movement and coordination.
- Vision: Adequate vision to identify small parts; normal color vision required for electrical work.
- Hearing: Ability to detect and identify mechanical sounds.
- Steady Hands: Ability to maintain stable arm and hand positioning for extended periods.
- Flexibility: Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and working in confined spaces.
- Strength: Ability to lift 25–50 lbs. frequently.
- Communication: Ability to clearly communicate with internal customers, mechanics, and supervisors.
- Critical Thinking: Strong troubleshooting and logical reasoning skills.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to follow instructions and perform detailed work.
- Safety Awareness: Must follow all safety protocols and handle equipment and materials safely.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Understanding of fundamental mechanical principles.
Work involves standing, walking, bending, and lifting in varying temperatures and a loud shop environment.
