About This Position

Description:

Medical Assistant

Position Summary:

The Medical Assistant provides critical support to dermatologists, mid-level providers, and Mohs surgeons, ensuring efficient patient care and smooth clinic operations. This role combines clinical duties, administrative tasks, and patient education, with a focus on dermatological procedures and Mohs micrographic surgery.

Detailed Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care and Clinical Support:

• Greet and escort patients to examination rooms

• Record patient medical histories and vital signs

• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures

• Assist physicians during dermatological examinations, surgical procedures, biopsies, and Mohs surgery

• Perform basic wound care and dressing changes

• Administer medications as directed by physicians

• Collect and prepare tissue specimens for laboratory analysis

2. Administrative Duties:

• Manage and update electronic health records

• Make phone calls and respond to patient inquiries

• Coordinate referrals to other healthcare providers

• Manage inventory of medical supplies and equipment

3. Laboratory Procedures:

• Perform basic laboratory tests relevant to dermatology

• Process and prepare specimens for pathology

• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper calibration

4. Patient Education:

• Provide instructions on skincare regimens and post-procedure care

• Explain treatment plans and medication usage to patients

• Offer guidance on sun protection and skin cancer prevention

5. Infection Control and Safety:

• Sterilize and maintain medical instruments

• Ensure examination rooms are clean and properly stocked

• Adhere to all safety protocols and OSHA standards

• Assist in maintaining HIPAA compliance

6. Professional Development:

• Stay current with advancements in dermatology and Mohs surgery techniques

• Participate in ongoing training and education programs

• Attend staff meetings and contribute to quality improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a dermatology setting

• Proficiency in electronic health record systems

• Strong knowledge of medical terminology and dermatological conditions

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program

• Current Medical Assistant certification

• Experience with Mohs surgery procedures

• Additional certifications relevant to dermatology or surgical assisting

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods

• Capable of assisting patients with limited mobility

• Visual acuity to read diagnostic instruments and patient charts

• Manual dexterity for medical procedures and computer use
