Job Summary:
The Outreach Ambassador – Homeless Services is a dynamic, field-based role at Weingart Center, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to ending homelessness in Los Angeles. This position blends community programming with direct outreach to individuals experiencing homelessness. Ambassadors facilitate wellness and educational activities for interim housing residents, while also engaging unhoused individuals in surrounding public areas. They work closely with LAHSA, LA County outreach teams, and site security to connect individuals to housing and support services. The role includes food distribution, documentation, caseload support, and assistance to the Program Manager in daily operations.
Job Summary:

This position blends community programming with direct outreach to individuals experiencing homelessness. Ambassadors facilitate wellness and educational activities for interim housing residents, while also engaging unhoused individuals in surrounding public areas. They work closely with LAHSA, LA County outreach teams, and site security to connect individuals to housing and support services. The role includes food distribution, documentation, caseload support, and assistance to the Program Manager in daily operations.
Essential Functions:
Conduct daily outreach in public areas, accompanied by site security, to engage unhoused individuals respectfully and safely
Walk designated routes with a clipboard to document interactions, needs, and housing interest
Complete intakes and assessments, and connect individuals to housing resources through LAHSA and partner agencies
Collaborate with LA County outreach coordinators to coordinate referrals and follow-ups
Maintain an active caseload of 10–15 individuals, including both interim housing residents and outreach contacts
Conduct regular check-ins to assess progress, update housing plans, and identify barriers to stability
Track client milestones such as document readiness, housing application status, and service referrals
Develop and lead monthly activity calendars (e.g., workshops, fitness, arts, life skills) for interim housing residents
Promote participation through flyers, announcements, and one-on-one engagement
Organize and distribute meals/snacks to residents and outreach contacts
Track food inventory and coordinate with vendors and volunteers for safe delivery
Maintain accurate case notes and documentation in HMIS/Clarity
Assist the Program Manager with administrative tasks, reporting, and coordination
Uphold trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and culturally competent practices in all interactions
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (Associate or Bachelor’s in social work, psychology, or related field preferred)
1–2 years of experience in outreach, social services, or activity coordination
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage in diverse populations
Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or substance use preferred
Must be empathetic, observant, and able to advocate effectively
Food service training or certification required (e.g., ServSafe or equivalent)
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Willingness to complete training in Trauma-Informed Care, De-escalation, and Harm Reduction
Physical & Mental Requirements:
Ability to walk long distances and stand for extended periods while conducting outreach
Capable of lifting up to 25 lbs. and performing physical tasks such as bending, reaching, and carrying supplies
Strong verbal communication, reading, writing, and decision-making skills
Comfortable working indoors, outdoors, and in diverse urban environments
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with face-to-face and verbal contact
