About This Position

Position Summary:
The Kitchen Supervisor directs the overall food-service operation of the camp including purchasing, preparation, nutrition, service, sanitation, security, personnel management, customer service, and record keeping

Essential Requirements:
This position requires registration as a member of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A.
To incorporate opportunities for teaching courage, confidence, and character during daily interaction with campers and staff.
Ensure that ample provisions are supplied for guests as directed.
Oversee operations of the camp food and dining service including coordinating activities between the kitchen and dining room.
Oversee the planning and preparation of nutritionally balanced camp meals, snacks, pack-out food, and weekend staff meals. Include meals for all campers and staff with dietary restrictions.
Ensure the service of camp meals by directing the work of other employees.
Ensure safe and efficient preparation and serving of camp meals.
Work with Camp Administrative Staff to build staff schedules ensuring that all meals and events are properly staffed for success.
Be on site during Summer Overnight Camp and Weekend Events outside of summer camp when requested by Camp Leadership.
Oversee the inventory and ordering of food, equipment, and supplies and arrange for the routine maintenance, sanitation, and upkeep of the camp kitchen, its equipment, and facilities.
Maintain inventory of food.
Order food and kitchen supplies consistent with menus and enrollment counts.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety, including preparations for health inspections.
Direct kitchen staff in the cleaning and maintenance of all food-service areas, including kitchen, dining hall, and storage.
Inspect equipment and ensure the equipment is repaired as necessary.
Promote practices that seek to reduce waste, reuse items, and recycle as much as possible.
Manage all administrative functions regarding kitchen and dining room employees.
Monitor employee performance and training.
Plan, coordinate, schedule, and supervise the work of other food service staff.

Additional Responsibilities:
• Clean the stove and ovens.
• Wipe off and straighten food cans and storage shelves.
• Straighten drawers and cupboards.
• Polish stainless-steel fixtures.
• Wash trash cans inside and out.
• Wash the dish room mats and hang them out to dry.
• Wash the kitchen laundry.
• Be available to check in/put away food deliveries and organize the food storage areas as needed.
• Check and refill salt and pepper shakers and salad bar containers as necessary.
• To carry out other duties as delegated by the Director of Camps.

Position Qualifications:
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Obtain or currently have a SERV Safe Manager Certification
• Experience in organized professional food service is preferred.
• Be tactful and respectful with campers, staff, parents, and volunteers.
• Demonstrate good judgment.
• Demonstrate sound professional ethics.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in institutional or large food service setting or two years experience as camp or food supervisor or equivalent
• Knowledge of and experience in food service: ordering, inventory, budgeting, food preparation, family-style serving, buffet serving, cleaning, and institutional kitchen equipment.
• Ability to work within a budget and purchase supplies efficiently.
• Good judgment in anticipating and preventing accidents.
• Be able to act calmly, quickly, and give and/or follow directions during an emergency.
• Knowledge of safety practices as applicable.
Equipment Used: Computer (includes Microsoft Office and Internet), multi-line phone, calculator, printer, copier, commercial dishwasher, meat slicer, commercial grade mixer, commercial toaster, ice machine, grill, griddle, soup vat, convection oven, walk-in refrigerator, walk-in freezer, stand up refrigerator, chest freezer, juice machine, milk machine, frozen drink machine.

Physical Activities: Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, talking, listening, reading, operating equipment (listed above), counting, writing, typing.

Physical Demands: Sufficient strength to lift, push and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance

Work Conditions: Activities occur both inside, outside and at Camp Hawthorn Hollow.
