Director of Professional Development and Clinical Training Overview
The role of the Director of Professional Development and Clinical Training is to oversee the Department of Professional Development in all aspects of daily operations, including the supervision and oversight of the Training Coordinator position. This position will report to the Senior Director of Professional Development, Clinical Services and Research, providing assistance with special projects as needed.
Given the nature of Melmark Pennsylvania’s service delivery, this Director role must be available to fulfill numerous roles within the organization. This would include assisting the senior administrative team and oversight of the Director of Program roles and responsibilities in the absence of these individuals. The employee must have senior level clinical skills and the ability to attend to numerous details and understand multiple regulatory standards. The position will require flexible hours and will require observations of individuals served across multiple sites, including designated classrooms, programs and residences. The position requires a proactive approach to program development emphasizing ongoing skill development, increased independence, the reduction of restrictive programming and meeting IEP and/or ISP behavior objectives at a high rate of success.

Requirements
- Master’s required; Ph.D. preferred in ABA, Psychology, Education, or Special Education.
- Board Certified Behavior Analyst certification required.
- Strong background in applied behavior analysis, clinical application of applied behavior, analysis with individuals with autism spectrum disorders, acquired brain injury and neurological disorders. Strong experience working with individuals with significant challenging behaviors. Experience with staff development, research design and methodology. Position requires exceptional writing skills and history of journal submissions and publications.
- Ten to fifteen (10-15) years experience with specialized populations and ABA. Five or more (5+) years supervising and training staff. Must enjoy training and presenting to groups and individuals and have the ability to adapt teaching style to each learner.
Director of Professional Development and Clinical Training Responsibilities
- Ensures all training is in compliance with all State and Federal regulatory requirements of adult and children services provided at Melmark Pennsylvania.
- Assesses and adapts New Employee Orientation Training and Annual In Service training for all Departments in conjunction with Directors with an emphasis on competency based training modules.
- Ensures compliance and integrity with competency based training requirements when new employees are assigned to program sites.
- Ensures compliance and integrity with Melmark's staff feedback system.
- Participates in the development of other Master program opportunities for staff including Endicott’s Master in ABA and Autism and Neumann’s special education opportunities.
- Oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of the annual Expert Speaking Series and Annual Conference, in collaboration with the Executive Director of Research..
- Provides mentorship for staff who are preparing to be certified as BCBA or BCaBA, including providing study groups for those preparing to sit for the exam.
- Develops, coordinates and monitors BCBA/BCaBA supervision of Melmark employees.
- Develops and implements Clinician Training Curriculum to meet identified professional development needs of new or aspiring clinicians.
- Oversees the development the Annual Advanced Training Series topics (via Training Coordinator).
- Oversees the implementation of Melmark’s Supervision Series across departments in conjunction with Directors
- Oversees the implementation of Melmark’s Functional Analysis Curriculum across departments in conjunction with Directors
- Oversees the implementation and fidelity of training for CPI
- Assists with overseeing the implementation of current Behavior Intervention Strategies: Policies and Procedures as outlined by Melmark Pennsylvania and ensure clinical policies and procedures on behavioral strategies are implemented consistently and accurately across clinical settings (procedural integrity).
- Acts as a senior clinical mentor and trainer for Senior Clinicians (including Behavior Analysts, Clinical Case Managers, Assistant Directors and Directors)
- Audits individual review system by attending a sample of weekly reviews, providing assessment and feedback for personnel attending these meetings.
- Assists with crisis management across settings.
- Serves as Senior Administrator for on-call responsibilities.
