About Parker:
Parker is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1,330 students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12. Job Description:
Parker seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated and passionate teacher to teach Grade 5.
This opening is for the 2026-2027 school year. Lower School teachers report to the Head of Lower School. Their responsibilities include: classroom management; preparing lessons for and teaching the core subjects of math, literacy and history/social studies; attending school-led professional development, faculty meetings, grade-level and other departmental meetings as required; communicating students' progress to parents in a timely manner and as required by grade reporting protocol; keeping current with required technology tools; standing duties as scheduled; supporting admissions events and testing; and setting, reviewing, refining and achieving professional goals.
Requirements:Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Daily classroom instruction; including planning and teaching a challenging course of study in a developmentally appropriate manner, with experience in differentiating instruction
- Prioritizing and examining inclusive curricula, teaching practice and environment
- Providing regular and timely feedback to students about the trajectory of their learning
- Ongoing communication and conferencing with parents
- Conferencing with students and colleagues as required
- Weekly collaboration with the grade level team, ensuring horizontal alignment and consistent assessment practices across the grade.
- Active participation in the curricular improvement of the department
- Attend 5th grade outdoor education camp
- Standing duties as assigned
- Setting, reviewing and achieving professional goals
- Prepare students for middle school
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, an advanced degree is desirable
- Teaching credential is desirable
- Prior upper elementary school teaching experience is required
- Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills
- Strong instructional and classroom management skills; have an understanding of Responsive Classroom practices
- Strong interpersonal and cultural competency skills when working with students, parents, faculty, and School leadership
- A strong and sincere commitment to professional development, both in pedagogy and content areas
- A proficiency in the application of educational technology practices
- Commitment to being a positive and contributing member of the professional community
- A desire to work in a highly collaborative environment
- Genuinely love to work with children and educators at the elementary level
Salary and Benefits:
Parker is committed to attracting and retaining the highest quality faculty and staff through a substantial compensation plan, including competitive salary, TIAA retirement benefits, and full medical/dental coverage. Individual salary is negotiable depending on years of experience and educational background.
Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000 per year
The actual salary will be determined by the candidate’s educational degree and their years of full-time teaching experience. The starting salary listed reflects this position’s minimum experience and educational requirements; the ending salary listed represents the top of the salary structure for this position. Most candidates can expect to enter in the lower to middle section of this salary range, depending on their specific experience and education.
