Summary – The Police Officer is responsible for protecting and serving the public and the MetroParks. It is the responsibility of the Police Officer to complete all assigned tasks, duties, and instructions in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. The position is suitable for transitional duty.
Required Education/ Qualifications- Must be at least 21 years old
- Minimum High School completion (or GED)
- Minimum of one (1) year progressive experience as a police officer
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
- Must possess or be willing to obtain State Firearms certification within six months of hire
- Must possess and maintain the Ohio Basic Police Officer Certification
Police Duties
- Conduct foot and vehicle patrols to deter crime by ensuring that all organizational and rental policies, procedures, and safety practices are followed
- Protect against hazards and unsafe conditions by identifying potential risks, responding promptly to emergencies, and ensuring the safety of park guests, staff, properties, and natural resources, assisting with MetroParks wildlife programs as needed
- Ensure all doors, windows, and gates are securely locked on assigned closed properties
- Document and report property damage, vandalism, and traffic impediments upon occurrence
- Assist the public by engaging with community members and providing information, guidance, and support as needed
- Utilize radio to communicate with on-duty law enforcement as needed
- Complete and maintain daily activity logs, incident reports, and other documentation as needed
- Serve as both a liaison between and a resource for the MetroParks and other area safety forces
- Secure crime scenes and potential hazards from public access
- Perform incident investigations, including but not limited to casualties and traffic collisions
- Make arrests and issue citations by identifying violations, taking appropriate enforcement action, and following required legal procedures
- Provide event support by managing crowds, directing traffic, ensuring public safety, and responding to any issues that arise
- Attend court proceedings and testify as needed by presenting clear, accurate information
- Assist as needed with comprehensive criminal investigations
- Collect and process evidence while maintaining proper documentation and ensuring the integrity of the evidence holding area
- Maintain detailed and accurate records by completing daily activity logs, incident reports, complaints, and other required paperwork, including but not limited to reports on arrests, DUIs, license confiscations, and towed vehicles
- Conduct surveillance, take statements, preserve crime scenes, and promptly conduct preliminary investigations
Job Requirement
The Police Officer is required to be available as the situation warrants. Events may require working evenings, weekends, holidays or other times outside of what is considered a normal schedule. Typical periods of work may routinely exceed 40 hours per week.
